While I didn't hear it myself, there is a lot of criticism about it. But I will say this though, with the vocal range needed it'really not an easy song to sing properly.

It was the second National Anthem performance in a row at a national event that was lacking. If you can get it on NHRA TV it starts at 2:43 Mark on the Sunday vid
nhra still plays to an older crowd. one thing you shouldn't screw up is the anthem. brainerd has had young guys and a guitar too.
news flash......it's not the answer. play a good recording if you can't find decent local talent to sing the song; especially as the parachute flag jumpers are gone now too.
No disrespect to the above mentioned performers, except for the Roseann Barr and the clown at the Pomona, but the gold standard in my mind is Whitney Houston's version at the 1991 Super Bowl!
Yes for such a little girl she can really belt it out, she did fantastic. I think she did it a couple times at Pomona, I think she did the finals back to back years.

Whitney's is the gold standard but my 1B would be Dr. Jessie McGuire, especially the one he performed at game 7 of the 2001 World Series. Luckily I have been at a few events he has performed at and it always gives me goosebumps.
I remember sitting in the stands and being shocked at the thunder coming out of this young lady. She earned a standing ovation from me and everyone else around us.

I used to watch a 6 year old kid named Avery the drummer, on YouTube. Man that kid could drum. I think he's 16-18 now. There's something about a kid that has talent and drive that makes me happy, feel good, and useless, all at the same time.

There was always something about Florence Henderson, then Jim Nabors with Back Home Again, and Taps, that added a boost too the Indy 500. It never ever got old.
I would much rather hear a scratchy 45 at Sacramento than a few others I have heard.
It is not easy, but it is important to get the word's right. Respect
