I like the idea of having 1320 at tracks with longer supported shutdowns. Its about the legacy... 1/4 mile drag racing. I does mean something to fans.

But nothing addresses the problem of an aging demographic. What are we doing to actively attract younger fans? I think you can help offset costs by marketing geared to the younger crowd, student discounts for tickets, involving universities... whatever it takes to get the youth at the races.

i agree, the nat. events have priced themselves out of reach for most youth; if they are not tied to a team, a parent, or older close
friend/s they will most likely not spend their own dime to attend.....IMO young men do not perceive a $100 day at the drags as a bargain.
us older folk started going to the drags when a day pass for local racing was maybe $5 or $10; a booked in show was maybe $20-$30?

I think Fuel racing without Superchargers would be Boring IMO!

Joe I thought you liked the TAD class. Just think we could watch the 285, 290,295, and the ever popular 300 barriers broken. Not to mention the first to break into the 4 sec zone.

Along with much less down time, because of no blower kabooms, it may make live TV more practical.

You are spot on EO. The future of the sport needs the young, both as fans And competitors.
Nhra never really embraced the "tuner"cars. (Imports)I
Instead of having the guys on motorcycles doing stunts, maybe we need a contest of the cars hopping the front ends off the ground....

It is interesting how people who may have never run a fuel car of any kind in they're life have all the answers.

Fuel car racing has evolved into two factions, those who race in the NHRA championship series and those who don't.

That race fans is the choice of the racers, Not the NHRA or corporate America.

1000 ft racing for the fuel cars is the best that can be done.

Get over it its here to stay.

Isn't going from zero to 325 MPH in 1000 ft in less than 4 seconds mind blowing.

Fire the next pair.

Ya...having the race teams decide the rules worked out real well for CART...

if the fans don't like 1000' racing and stay away in droves then what happens to professional drag racers?

Paul, I do like the Alcohol cars, but A/Fuel cars compared to Top Fuel is a Joke! I bet it's a 15-20 db difference! And the 40-50 MPH!

So the suggestion that 1000' Fuel racing is Hurting Attendance and TV ratings is a joke? Every race I go to I will hear comments about 1000' racing form 2-3 people at least! People do NOT like it!

The Reason I DO NOT ATTEND national events? I don't have a grand laying around to travel out of town for three days to watch a bloody drag race... A 200 mile a day round trip I can deal with... It costing as much to park at the track than gas cost (30mpg @ $3.25 gal) By the way, my kids don't want to waste a day doing something they only have a passing interest in...

This is an interesting comment Karl, and I'm using the races that I attend religiously each year as an example. Gainesville, parking is free. Atlanta, parking is free. Indy, I park near the back gate at a little farm, it's $7 per day. All of these tracks are NHRA tracks.

So is it the non-NHRA tracks that are trying to make a killing on parking? Just curious?

Pomona is prohibitively expensive to park ($20 on Friday, $25 Sat-Sun) and that is a NHRA facility. That's right ... $70 to park if you go all 3 days. That probably has more to do with Fairplex than it does NHRA, but I am also pretty sure NHRA gets a healthy cut.
