Wan't to send a complaint to ESPN?

I don't see this as doing any good.

The deal is what it is, and no amount of carping is gonna change things.

Yes folks, NASCAR will trump just about ANYTHING else on ESPN this season.

Oh well, it's still a better thing then years ago when it took me more than a week to find out the results.

For those who remember, you used to be able to call in to a service where Mac would give the results on a fee per minute basis.

I did that once. After the phone bill arrived, and the wife raised the roof, never did it again.

I remember the days of calling Mac for race results. I also called a West. Coast parts mfg. on Monday morning to get results a few times. And the days of Wide World of Sports showing races months after it ran.
You kids don't know how good it is today.

Very true. Good old Wild World of Sports. For the young, it was a 90 min. show. They always had 3 sports on, so yer down to 30 min. Minus comercials, say 25 min. They only covered Indy, and Pomona, so we got approx. 50 min per year of TV drag racing.

Yeah the delays are a pain, but he is right, you don't know how much better the coverage is today.

I called NHRA for a long time to get results and would end up talking about the race for a good amount of time, try calling NHRA these days about anything, might as well try and call god!!!:(

You are probably right, but we can't just take it laying down. We must make our voice heard or else it just confirms to ESPN that nobody is watching. Love or hate the TV coverage (and I often have issues with it) it's one of the last avenues of exposure for our sport to an otherwise oblivious world.

I don't think ESPN really cares if people are watching or not. They've already cashed the check from Glendora.

And drag racing as an organized activity has been around now for what, 63 years or so? And the world is still oblivious to it? That should tell you something...

Want to know what tells me something? This is THE fan site for NHRA drag racing, with several knowledgeable members, and even the traffic HERE is down from where it was 6 years ago. Can you imagine what the TV numbers must look like?

There's what- 80 to 100 regular posters on here (I'm being generous)? Even if you multiplied that number by 10, 20, 50- it still doesn't make up a decent enough audience for ESPN to give two chits about, compared to how many dial in for a stick-and-ball sport.

Attendance in the stands is down, no matter how many times they close downtrack bleachers, and print media is all but gone from the news stands.

Everyone here should be VERY happy about what we do get- it is quite literally giving you PERSONALLY something you enjoy on a shiny platter in mass quantities, thanks to NHRA stroking a check from your membership money, attendance money, entrance fees and event sponsors. 63 years is a long time to be around- especially when your heyday was over 30 years ago. Consider how lucky you are to have any coverage, based on the numbers that are being reached.

Love Drag Racing? Go out to your local track and watch some.

sent a comment to the link provided by kenneth.
it was polite and not condescending; received first an automated email, then later the same day a second
email stating my comment and that it would be shared with appropriate individuals.
gotta' let em' know we're out here, no matter how small our numbers.

I always answer my phone... you just might not like what I may have to say...
Calls to Pops and the Spook both go straight to voice mail....

This summer I left my phone hanging by the kitchen cabinet for 7 days. Could only use it when at home. Like the old days. That was a good week btw. Amazing what becomes important again when I did this in the daily realm of life.

On the coverage or lack there of: Things happen. I'm pleased 99 percent of the time so why complain the once.

BINGO!! I know how lucky I am to be able to go to my local track and continue to enjoy a sport I've loved for 50 years.

The only thing I watch on ESPN is NHRA coverage.

ESPN sucks othewise, further the NHRA coverage also sucks, I am over it.

I DVR it and fast forward it to Only see the runs in T/F and F/C...and that is Only because I still have a few friends out there racing.

I'm just over the drama B.S. Its like General Hospital on 90% Nitro.

If someone would Sack Up and say what needs to be said, then do what needs to be done............But we know That will never happen.

BTW who won?

Can someone fill me in on what brought all this on? Here in the land down under we actually got the full show on time for a change. From what I can figure out we got bumped for a rain effected NASCAR race.

and in 1995 the only announcing study material was that from Post Produced races on TV. you didn't have the ability to hear Dave Mac, Bob Frey, Leo Taugher, Unk, Lewis (both Mike and "Stat guy") etc on a regular basis because Internet hadn't taken off yet.

I don't like the qualifying show being moved to ESPNEWS. That's a premium channel on Comcast. Don't know why, but it is. Can't afford it. :(

I remember & when I called the phone # I would make up a car # I'd change 4 or 5 # on my card.. & never got billed for it, & listened as long as the recording was..

Before all you "do gooders" get on my case... I felt guilty for screwing NHRA.. (yea right) but I honestly did donate to the fund for injured racers...

This was the response I got:

Dear Erica,

Schedule changes happen more often for sports than for any other type of programming.

In this case, ESPN’s live NASCAR coverage resumed on ESPN2 following a lengthy rain delay and NHRA was moved to ESPNEWS. We apologize for any inconvenience this change may have caused.

You can currently watch a replay of the NHRA Nationals on ESPN3 via WatchESPN.com here: Streaming Online - WatchESPN.
