Video discussing red flags for NHRA (8 Viewers)

How about running the race on Saturday night? I get tired of the reply "...but about the back gate?" What about it? There is no reason a Friday-Sunday race couldn't be Thursday-Saturday.

They could still have sportsmen. Run 2 rounds of pro quals Friday, one mid-morning Saturday before it gets too hot, and do R1 at 6pm.
This may not work in the fall when going against college football, but t ciuld be an option in spring and summer races.
I completely agree. Nitro at night is amazing. Most of the races from May-September could be run at night.

I always remember a racer whose company paved English town saying he, and his workers were unfortunately not able to sit in the sun all day at the Summernationals. They needed a break from the heat. The construction guys I know , say that"s one of the hardest parts about getting help, young people are maybe not as tough , or maybe they are smarter than we are\were, They are more likely to be in a sports bar or some other place with A/C (home) on a hot Sat. or Sunday. The majority of us grew up without A/C , so it's what we know. The dirt circle tracks here in Iowa still draw good crowds, because they are all run at night when the weather cools. When our drag strips run at night, such as Funny Car Chaos, I can actually get friends to go. What worked in the past is no longer working, NHRA better start trying something , anything !

nhra seems to suffer from average live attendance (much lower than in the 90's for example), and predictably low tv ratings.
what would bring more folks out to a race? would lower ticket prices entice more to come out? lower parking? lower concessions?
10k fans @ 70.00/day = 700,000.00 take
15k fans @ 60.00/day = 900,000.00
15k fans @ 50.00/day = 750,000.00
if you can increase attendance @ slightly lesser price?
note: i ordered (2) gyros, no beverage at BIR on one of three days i was there. $30.00.
that was the only food concession money spent all weekend. food was great, but price too much.
16oz. beers were only $6ea., regardless of what beer garden. thought that was a great price! bet they sold a ch*_load too.

You got off cheap on the food. At Sonoma this year, a footlong hot dog cost me $21. No drink or anything else. Unreal. I do stupid stuff when starving and in a hurry.

I have noticed people are ridiculously scared of heat (and weather in general) these days. The whining any time there is a 90+ forecast is insane- so many people act like they literally stand a good chance of dying if they even go outside. Summertime events get cancelled due to routine heatwaves. It's really bizarre and sad how people are just OK with being weak now.

i couldn't agree more, what the heck is wrong with people these days. plus no one wants to work either.

I don't go to sporting events but are there any of the younger generation (that NHRA should be trying to attract) attending any other sporting events? I think they are always consumed by their smart phones.

Also, the food vendors should have some type a limit on how much they can charge for their products. I'm all for capitalism but their prices are factored into the decision of whether or not to attend a race. Remember, NHRA, our country is still in a recession. Money is tight.

Most if not all the time, vendors are told what they have to charge

Mike, I have felt that the NHRA brass have lost touch with Wally parks vision for racing, lost connection with the racers and more concerned with their pay check, not a good way to say that, not fair to that manufacturer as a example, that said I still hope for the NHRA to find a way to grow in the future
Seriously, I hope they are making ton of money at the job just like I hope you are to.

I'm not sure about other cities, but here in Philly, many young people attend Phillies games. The team has done a lot to make a night at the ballpark more than a game. It is a social event too. When you go, you see a difference in the crowd when local colleges are in session. There are many more college students there. There are sections of the ballpark that attract crowds of people in their 20s year-round.

Curious as to if the college kids are paying to get in ?? I know around here I have heard free or greatly reduced pricing.

When attending an event, whether a musical concert , motorsports race , or an art show, food, drink and an event t-shirt are what a lot of people want to purchase. NHRA and track promoters and food vendors need to work together to bring people back to the track. I know single color screened t-shirts are cheap to make, and the markup in price is huge. Make a variety of event t-shirts and give a bundle price of say $28-30 , for a drink , hotdog and t-shirt. What ever. Sell more tickets and food at a reasonable price, get more spectators, make more money. Attract more spectators to the stands, and sponsors might take an interest and come into the sport again. Try something .

I would think covered grandstands would be a big hit for a lot of people. Sitting on aluminum stands in the sun and heat can be brutal. Other countries have dragstrips with covered stands. Just need a tent like roof to do it.

BIR changed it's policy for it's top end bleachers a few years ago. many years ago you could bring your own coolers in.
then they stopped it. nobody sat there. now open policy again, and far end bleachers are full again, with zoo crowd on their atv's and razors
just past bleachers between the two stripes. they have plastic barrels set up in front of the bleachers down there that everyone crushes their cans
and throws trying to make into barrel. you're so far down there, you can have fun in the stands with everyone, and hear the PA system. it's great fun.
and everyone stays hydrated at their own price point ...... i think mgm't realized you either get empty bleachers and no additional concession sales,
or full bleachers and let them do their own thing. on the tower side there is a beer garden tent just past the bleachers. the place is packed all day everyday.
if everyone there suddenly went up into the bleachers, you'd notice a difference immediately. plus the wheelie bar not even on the track, and it's always
packed too. each one of us has a paid general admission which includes a reserve seat. whether we are in a seat spending nothing, or in another seat
or location with our own stuff, or at track provided watering hole, spending more money while enjoying the racing. there's different groups watching
the race at very different interest levels, and each group has money in their pocket that will get spent, just a matter of where, when, and on what.
sorry to be so long.

I think the ability to provide water at a sensible price should be mandatory, as it should be considered a safety issue.
Especially when bringing your own water in isn't allowed.
I just looked at Costco, a pallet of 48 cases of 40 per case = 1,920 bottles = $429.99 per case. that's $00.23 per bottle.
You mean to tell me that selling at $1.00 a bottle making a profit of .77 cents on each bottle as a curtesy and safety issue isn't enough?

The tracks at Vegas, NHRA and NASCAR, have a contract with a large vendor that sets the prices, for all vendors, price can vary from other tracks that have different main vendors, the tracks usually put out bids for main vendors contracts, track owners and main vendors set the overall pricing, sub vendors get a set amount on food and sodas, vendors at Vegas even have to by all beverage’s and water from them, it’s a pretty tight profit margin for sub vendors, it’s not as simple as the subs dropping prices, the track and main vendors need to get involved to make that happen, should the tracks and main vendors sell water at the races for health reasons for a dollar, that should be a no brainer, not my sand box, just my thoughts on water
