Video discussing red flags for NHRA

I think the ability to provide water at a sensible price should be mandatory, as it should be considered a safety issue.
Especially when bringing your own water in isn't allowed.
I just looked at Costco, a pallet of 48 cases of 40 per case = 1,920 bottles = $429.99 per case. that's $00.23 per bottle.
You mean to tell me that selling at $1.00 a bottle making a profit of .77 cents on each bottle as a curtesy and safety issue isn't enough?
Now include delivery, personnel, and any necessary infrastructure to store/cool/sell that $ 0.23 bottle...

Is it true Chicago did away with GA seating and made everyone buy a reserved seat in a 2/3 empty place?
While I can’t say they had GA tickets for sale at the gate, I sat in GA all weekend. The last 4 or so sections on the pitside were general admission.

how much does icecream cost Bader?
Pretty positive the reputation built over the years based on what could have been a "one season and done" promotion has not only paid for itself, but has probably banked enough in good vibes points in locking in return (ticket buying) customers, that he could run $1 ice cream for another decade, and the only thing that would hurt the Baders would be if cows here stopped producing milk...

Some things just work.

When attending an event, whether a musical concert , motorsports race , or an art show, food, drink and an event t-shirt are what a lot of people want to purchase. NHRA and track promoters and food vendors need to work together to bring people back to the track. I know single color screened t-shirts are cheap to make, and the markup in price is huge. Make a variety of event t-shirts and give a bundle price of say $28-30 , for a drink , hotdog and t-shirt. What ever. Sell more tickets and food at a reasonable price, get more spectators, make more money. Attract more spectators to the stands, and sponsors might take an interest and come into the sport again. Try something .
At IHRA racers can sell their own shirts. Better experience and helps the racer, no middleman.

you're not including what NHRA charges vendors to sell 'anything' at an event

I have noticed people are ridiculously scared of heat (and weather in general) these days. The whining any time there is a 90+ forecast is insane- so many people act like they literally stand a good chance of dying if they even go outside. Summertime events get cancelled due to routine heatwaves. It's really bizarre and sad how people are just OK with being weak now.
I don't think it has anything to do with them being "weak." That sounds like a lazy response. I think there is more information out there on what harm excessive temperatures do to the body, and people are taking that into consideration. Just how Nitro crew chiefs have gained more information over time. They weren't running 300-mph to the 1/8-mile 20 years. it was a collective growth of knowledge and technology over the years. Which is what has happened to human beings and the medical field and science.

It’s good that YouTube and other pundits are laying out the tough love. I’m sure NHRA notices it, they don’t live in a vacuum. I don’t necessarily agree with everything these people say, BUT, only good things can come from it. Someone has to say it.

I was at Indy, 24 years straight and the crowd was a little lighter than the past couple of years, which with the nice weather was a surprise. Indy Monday has always been lower than the weekend. We had a large group and sat in GA, we never had to worry about finding seats or being crowded in at all. While I don't want elbow to elbow people, we do need more fans.
-Lower the ticket prices, we get less racing now and the price keeps going up. I know people that used to come for multiple days that now drop days due to cost. If you keep bleeding the customer, they eventually look for value and entertainment elsewhere.
-Lower food prices. You'll make more as people will buy a second time and people that refuse to buy now, will actually buy. If you want to keep beer higher to keep people from getting drunk I get that, but everything else should see a massive price drop. Again, If you keep bleeding the customer, they eventually look for value and entertainment elsewhere.
-Live TV doesn't work for our sport. During the Funny Car callout, they had to stop all racing action due to some TV issue. People left the stands, initially it was to get shade but they didn't return for the finals. Watch the crowd in the second round, then the final. I was on the Pro Pit side. That's not how you want sponsors or the TV audience (and the web) to see the sport. Same thing on Monday, it was a shorter delay but we still had to stop and wait. Fans headed to their cars to beat the rush.
-Give people time to walk around. Saturday and Sunday is nice in that they have so many or the marquee classes going, but there's not a good time to go walk the pits or the midway. They try to rush so much in to get us in and out of their quicker than we used too. Run a round or two of sportman classes (expect SG/SC, throttle stops are bad enough but having to explain it 87 times to newbies is rough) Not only does it introduce those classes to people who aren't aware, there are those of use that like it, but it also gives people a chance to walk the midway, buy food, buy shirts.
-Bring back Alan, most of the announcers are ok, with a few exceptions, When you have the MVP available, you shouldn't keep rolling out the third string.
-It's 2025 can we not have cotton, way too hot, race shirts as the only option. I wear moisture wicking shirts, I have them produced for some events that I put on. Even at my small numbers they are cheap, I'm sure with the quantity the NHRA and teams would get an even better deal. If they can't I know a good purchasing guy :)
TV- Replace TP, sorry but it's just rough. Also we don't need recaps and 27 replays. I don't mind a replay after a pass, that's fine, but too much of the show seems like filler as they do a race recap before the finals. If the show is only going to fill 2 hours, that's fine. Make it a great 2 hours then.
-Make drivers stay after losing. (or at least those in the top 10) Yup it sucks to lose so give them 30 minutes or whatever to come down from the loss, but then go sit out in your pit and take pictures and sign autographs with the fans for the rest of the day.
-This is huge. Let social media share on track action. That is what will end up in people's timelines, this is what can attract new and younger fans, this is marketing in today's day and age.

I'm lucky in that Norwalk isn't too far so I've spent plenty of time at a track that makes money but doesn't gouge people and also treats racers and fans great. Be it a massive pro event, a regular weekend or special event, I've never left feeling that I paid too much or got ripped off. Look at the success of banana ball and how the owner, flat out refuses to overcharge people. Now his goofy fun sport is filling major league stadiums where their own pro teams can't and he's expanded to multiple teams and is adding more for next year.

-Different topic, but since next year is 75 years I expect lots of cool stuff. At Indy I would love to see at least one winning car from a national event for each season. 75 seasons, 75 winners.

I just don't know why they just don't hire me :)

Please note I made no mention of the C-word :) .....although I have ideas to improve that as well if they insist on keeping it.

Didn’t someone at NHRA have one of those in not to distant past

I believe there was one, but it wasn't an Exec, If memory serves me correctly it was a well-financed fan who I think was hanging with a former champion

If you follow other forms of motorsports, about 100 miles northeast of Indy and one week later than the US Nationals, dirt late model racing has it's flagship event.

The World 100 at Eldora Speedway in Ohio, owned by Tony Stewart, was this weekend. While NHRA crowds at Indy seemed down, the dirt race sold out for the first time.

They quit selling tickets 2 hours before race time. I'd love to know how many were turned away. I'd guess counting those there and turned away, between 25-30,000 people drove to a wide spot in the road along a state highway last night.

Curious as to if the college kids are paying to get in ?? I know around here I have heard free or greatly reduced pricing.
They are paying. The Phillies sell out most games, so they are not giving away any tickets. The most they do is buy one-get one hot dog nights. Early in the season, they do offer packages in which you pay full price for the tickets and get coupons for a set amount of concessions.
