At the March Meet last year the starter at Famoso disqualified to NE2 cars for not staging in eliminations....no drama, he just let them sit, gave them the stage signal, let them sit and red lit them both.

That call did not come from the tower. It was Mark and Mark alone. And for my two cents, I thought he played it very well. What I would like to know is just exactly what he told them after he shut them off. He walked first to Hector, then to Matt and said something to them both. Whatever it was I think he got his message across.

What's good for the goose is good for the gander. I say, if 2 drivers are going going to duel like that, the timing system should have an override function, so the starter can variate and controll the stage-to-green time.
Then BOTH get held against thier will.....even after they've committed to stage - so there's still an "unknown" of when it actually goes green. That would really muck them up - and drivers would think twice about doing it, I bet. This would only be used in rare cases..... ????
If they want to burn down before staging, define an acceptable length of time; then once they go over that timeframe - the starter holds all the cards

Doesn't anybody remember the Indy '71 finals when Steve Carbone said he would sit until the headers melted before he staged first against Garlits? It worked for him.
People to this day are still talking about that race.
And it was voted one of NHRA's top 60 greatest moments.
I say let them melt on the line if they're so inclined. But, if they cause a problem requiring the Safety Safari to clean up, then obviously fine the heck out of them and dock them points.
The drivers and crew chiefs know what they're up against by getting into a burndown.
Don't forget, you can't have a burndown unless both parties play along.
Besides, the racing needs something to spice it up.

The poll has been up a full week. Over 81% agree, the starter should let them melt, or run out of gas, and NOT shut them off. Perhaps someone in Glendora will get the memo.....
