yes, qualifying could also be 4 wide, but the 8 run elim. per class
certainly would minimize elim. time on sunday, or sat. night under
the lights.

if i was bruton - i'd ask nhra to allow a different elim. format
at zmax using 4 wide racing.

chances are there will not be some tracks @ 1000' and some @ 1320',
as been suggested here in other threads, so why not have something
different at the one track that has 4 lanes?

why is it so hard to grasp two losers and two winners in a 4 wide race?
because it's different than what you've been used to?
(the countdown is good for nhra)

and cars flipping over guardrail (KB example mentioned in earlier post);
i would also us KB examle in John Force accident in texas - what would have
happened to KB if there had been a wall between the lanes?

I wouldn't mind seeing exhibitions on 4 lanes, but qualifying? The lanes are just too inconsistant for that!

what lanes?.....1 & 2? 3 & 4?.......oh, maybe 1 & 4 are bad, 2 is really good
and 3 is ok. what about the 2 quick laps by worsham and brown in
far rt. lane sunday?..........they weren't even racing on the right track!
or maybe they'd all be prepped the same way and suspect to oildowns the
same as they are with 2 lanes.

if 4 lanes were utilized for a race - do you not think there would be
adequate lane preparation for all 4?

if you can't tell, i'm all for experimenting to avoid stagnation.
i'm for the countdown and i really think bruton's two zmax races
could become the most popular races on tour.........yes, even more
popular than the nationals.

kind of looks like the 'innovate to go faster and quicker' days are over.
4.42 @ 337 in 1320' may never be seen again.
but we CAN put more horsepower on the track.
can't imagine the advertising campaign to come see 32,000 hp
all at once, and make every comparison you can to other motorsports
and their horsepower.

Okay, I'm just way too old school (did I just type old school? geez)

I'm Forced to watch top fuel on Saturday and Sunday, except for the T/F finals, I'm already in the pits for that... overall, don't watch gas floppers, I've never seen a PSB run...

And once Robert runs, I'm back to the pits... period...

I'm not at the track for a show, I'm at the track to watch one or two cars... but, I do try to watch sportsman run...

I do try to see ProMod, and I enjoy TA/FC....

I'm not NHRA's Target Market... Not anyone's target market... heck, even k'dubs and my 'puters are 'home built', I bought my 'stang because I liked it, liked the looks and the way it drove, and I needed a new car. Would have been happier if it didn't have power everything... don't need ac, power windows, cruse control(still don't know how to set it after 5 years) power lock and the rest of the k-rap they make standard on a car nowadays.

I really believe in K.I.S.S. and that's where drag racing has lost me. Smith might be the best thing for the SHOW... but I'm not at the track for a show.

that's a great post karl - i hear you; wouldn't consider myself
a target customer either, but they've already got me, most likely whatever
they do - would have to ban nitro to prevent me from attending.

just would like to see nhra at least maintain status quo as #2 viewed USA
motorsport and possibly grow a little and right now in 2009 i think the
NHRA has to at least try to mix it up a little to not only keep their casual
fans but also to attract new.

the countdown: IMO most casual fansunderstand 'sports playoffs' - adds a
new dimension to 2/3's point in season - i don't see it going away

new qualifying rules for fri. and sat.: still don't really get it and don't think
most fans do, much less care or can comprehend the few cars on sat.
last session trying to get in - i can see this being sh*tcanned.

4 lanes - we'll just have to wait and see......it's pretty cool though.

Mike, to me, NHRA would grow FAR more by doing something as simple as airing their great Full Throttle commercials and national event spots during prime time tv, not just during race telecasts. Click the link and scroll down to Vandergriff's comments---I agree with every word.

the countdown: renders the first 3/4 of the season basically meaningless and causes dives. The only reason it's not going away is because it would force NHRA to admit it made a mistake.

Did you notice in the NHRA insider bit on NHRA.com they made NO Acknowledgement of Budds Creek, well I heard from Lewis Bloom that Budds Creek did 4 lane racing back in the 70s. Makes me wonder if that was "don't mention an "I" track" after losing Richmond back to the "I-Side" for 2010. Funny they can put over IHRA alums like Steve Spiess, Matt Hagan and Clay Millican, but don't mention about an IHRA Track doing 4 lane racing.

I watched the coverage of the race last night and while they tried...it didn't even come close. You had to be there.

For exhibition yes I like it, for actual racing....not so sure.

Ding ding ding ding dingggggg! THAT'S what I was waiting to hear.
"You had to be there."

Good job guys, and GREAT pics Mr. Merrick.

Not 100% sure, but thought Budds was an AHRA track back in the 'Dark Ages'. That 4 wide shot was during the time frame that Bristol was an AHRA track too.

Does anyone have any good pictures of the race I could get by hard copy or E-Mail? I'd love to get some to get them autographed and donate to DRAW and for my collection. (Nothing for resale-I don't do that.) Thanks.
