Under the weather and car count circumstances it would seem to make sense to let all 16 cars run. Knowing for the first session they were probably only getting one, tell everyone they were seeding based on points and this was just a chance to get down the track.

well I just happened to have my N/D from the 1800's and it says that the field needs two runs to be set...

I have that issue and it says that the Greek was DQ'ed for putting Hydrazine in his horse's oats......

You mean he was using these....

Whole Race Horse Oats - Triple Crown Nutrition

"The horse's upper respiratory tract is highly sensitive dust. Performance and health can be compromised by dust. Feed only triple re-cleaned - dust free grains to optimize performance and health. Clean feed ensures the horse a clear airway, which is essential for top performance"

it's like a 14-71 supercharger for horses!:D

I don't like it, or understand it either. In a 15 car field, #1 always gets a first round bye, so why wouldn't #1 and #2 get first round bye runs? And in FC, I thought you had to put an ET on the board to qualify, so why do Hale and Lee get a spot in the field?

Because there are seven pairs!

You can debate if Terry should have been in (Greek didn't line up, neither did Garlits, Skuza or me so he doesn't get a freebie) but the ladder isn't a big deal.

This ladder is used to minimize bye runs. Many of you are wanting two byes, by using this there is only 1 bye. This means more side-by-side racing which is actually giving the fans a better show(something we complain the NHRA has gotten away from). There are standard ladders used for varying number of competitors, we just only see 15 and 16 most of the time.

if it wasn't the countdown I'm sure NHRA could have let them all run....but the chance of a championship eligible car being taken out by someone who got a questionable entry into the field would cause a whole different kind of uproar
I'm just curious if they would have made a Countdown contender sit out, suppose if it were the points leader Antron that hit the cones.

Brittany got a 2nd round bye from winning the first round. She's a championship contender and in the countdown. Wonder how her fellow competitors feel about her being given 20 extra points from having a bye the 2nd round? SHE SHOULD HAVE HAD A FIRST ROUND BYE, then let the chips fall from there. Nothing against Brittany. I'm a fan or hers. However, fair is fair.

Lee, does it matter when the 20 points happen? She would have got them either first or second round. Hell, some might argue that she had to win a round to get the 20. Under your way she just would have been given 20.

Either way doesn't matter, it is a known ladder system for 14 cars as it only allows one bye run instead of two.

It's actually a 20 point swing. She EARNED THAT 1st Round bye. What if she would have lost against Connolly? There's your 20 point swing. Brittany earned those 20 points and should not have had to race in the first round. I'm sorry NHRA, but you have it all screwed up. It DOES matter where the 20 points come from.

So they should have tossed out the 14 car ladder that has been around for years? Then people would complain that they were changing the rules to make Force happy, or because she's a girl or because of whatever other nonsense. They followed the rules that were in place. It's not their fault people don't know them

I'm just curious if they would have made a Countdown contender sit out, suppose if it were the points leader Antron that hit the cones.

Unless this is another rule that is changed, in the event that only one qualifying session is complete, the top 10 in points are automatically seeded in. So yea, Antron or anyone else in the top 10 should have made the show.

Lee i agree. what happens if 15 cars yesterday?....i think it's obvious #1Q gets a first round by; how else could you possibly have it? yet with 14 cars the #1Q has to race #14 Q? to decide who gets a 2nd round bye?....and especially if #14 is a C car? yesterday connelly had a huge gift staring rite at him but wasn't able to beat brittany.

yesterday's (2) byes were shown on ladder as a first round pair when IMO they should be looked at as the #15 & #16 Q cars giving #1Q and #2Q both a bye into second round.......then, if one of the bye runs dq'ed (cross line/hit wall), there would be a bye run in the second round to another first round winner.

13 team single elimination bracket = 5 first round pairs and 3 first round byes
14 team single elimination bracket = 6 first round pairs and 2 first round byes
15 team single elimination bracket = 7 first round pairs and 1 first round bye

IMO yesterday's 14 car bracket was incorrect.
there should have been (2) first round byes awarded to #1 and #2 qualifiers

Just wondering...are ANY of you NHRA Members?? Sounds like it from all the ND's lying around but if you go to the NHRA 2015 RULEBOOK and look under Race Procedures Section 2 Page 5, it clearly states that in situations where the field is not filled, such as 14 cars for a 16 car field, a 14 CAR LADDER WILL BE USED, NOT A 16 CAR LADDER. Blows all the conspiracy theory's when its actually written in ink. :)
