Brittany got a 2nd round bye from winning the first round. She's a championship contender and in the countdown. Wonder how her fellow competitors feel about her being given 20 extra points from having a bye the 2nd round? SHE SHOULD HAVE HAD A FIRST ROUND BYE, then let the chips fall from there. Nothing against Brittany. I'm a fan or hers. However, fair is fair.
Lee, all the other competitors had the same shot at qualifying number 1 and then they would have gotten the bye run in the second round. Everything was fair and by the book.

It also seems as though many of you have forgotten about prize money. The further a driver advances the more money he or she is paid. Knowing how most people on the Mater feel about NHRA and their payout structure, how is anyone surprised they don't hand out extra bye runs in a 13 or 14 car field? To PJ's point, more side by side racing instead of singles, coupled with paying only three racers second round loser money in yesterday's race instead of the normal four, seems to me to be a no brainer.

#1 qualifier is not treated the same depending on if 14 or 15 cars.....there is no denying this.
many 14 team single elim. brackets do not look like nhra's. learned something new today.

if you look at this eliminations ladder used yesterday you will notice 16 slots on the left side.

nhra placed 14 cars into a 16 car bracket and decides that the (2) byes constitute a pair in
the first round. it is odd, but i'm sure they want as many 1st round 'pairs' of cars as possible.
i get it, but a 14 team single elimination bracket does not have 16 slots.

Folks we have enough to legit stuff to complain about, claiming conspiracy because you don't recall/comprehend/realize that they have had and used brackets for various field sizes for years isn't the NHRA's fault. Maybe we need to have a breathalyzer test before people can post :)

You guys have got me face palming a lot.

PJ shoot this thing it's lame !!!!

Unless this is another rule that is changed, in the event that only one qualifying session is complete, the top 10 in points are automatically seeded in. So yea, Antron or anyone else in the top 10 should have made the show.

That rule has also been gone about 10 years........

Why aren't there umpteen threads about how fast the cars are going? About FCs going 330, about technology, about swept back headers and clutch setups, etc.? It seems that this forum is more political than anything, the threads that get the most longevity are ones that find fault or problems within the sport, or NHRA in particular. I noticed awhile ago that the Nitrous Pro Mod cars were using FC style zoomies instead of collectors, I was going to start a thread to learn why, and generally get a little bench racing going, but I knew it wouldn't be interesting enough for the Mater.

Post in the tech forum. There is no complaining about the NHRA there. Our own Mike Dusinski works on a Pro Mod car, he might have something to say, though I haven't seen him post here ina while.

You would be surprised, start one and see where it goes. Also don't just go by the comments, look at the views. Many people would read those to learn but might not have anything to say/add

Lee i agree. what happens if 15 cars yesterday?....i think it's obvious #1Q gets a first round by; how else could you possibly have it? yet with 14 cars the #1Q has to race #14 Q? to decide who gets a 2nd round bye?....and especially if #14 is a C car? yesterday connelly had a huge gift staring rite at him but wasn't able to beat brittany.

yesterday's (2) byes were shown on ladder as a first round pair when IMO they should be looked at as the #15 & #16 Q cars giving #1Q and #2Q both a bye into second round.......then, if one of the bye runs dq'ed (cross line/hit wall), there would be a bye run in the second round to another first round winner.

13 team single elimination bracket = 5 first round pairs and 3 first round byes
14 team single elimination bracket = 6 first round pairs and 2 first round byes
15 team single elimination bracket = 7 first round pairs and 1 first round bye

IMO yesterday's 14 car bracket was incorrect. there should have been (2) first round byes awarded to #1 and #2 qualifiers

I don't understand why there was so much confusion and opinion on this subject.

All cars qualify for a 16 car field. If there are fewer than 16, then they pair them up by the number available. Note: THEY PAIR THEM UP. The object is to have races, not to have qualifiers on a 16 car field.

It is rather simple. Whenever there is an even number of cars going into the first round, there is never a bye. No need for one.
If there is an uneven number in the 2nd round there is a bye to the winner of 1vs race. The #1 qualifier didn't earn that bye in the 1st round or the 2nd if s/he can't beat the competitor in the 1st round.

If there is an uneven number in subsequent rounds, then the #2 qualifier (or the ones that beats him) get the bye so #1 does not successively get byes.

Excuse me. I’m waiting for my doctor to come in my room and tell me that I just came out of a coma.
