SFI -vs- Impact Racing Products

Does it really make any difference? Who would want to do businss with Impact after this?

Been to a national event or even watched it on tv??? There are a number of drivers wearing Impact suits.Sometimes the general public isnt always privey to what happens behind corperate doors.I have an Impact sfi20 suit been recertified and plan on wearing it.I feel its as safe as any other suit at the track

I also see a lot of nice new sparco and simpson suits on tv now a days. Bottom line is there are lots of sportsman racers out there with a couple year old 3a5 suits that are worth crap anymore, and in my book that just isn't right. Yes I do race, and no I don't wear impact. Deist all the way for me.

And I think you're putting your life in the hands of people who don't respect it. The company has been shown to be deliberately cutting corners, creating suits with thread that isn't inflammable, and putting fake certification labels on things. Read the affidavit that's out on the net. Why would someone buy or use "safety" equipment from a company with this track record?

A Message from Bill Simpson - JUNE 28th 2010

I have read the recent press release released by SFI Foundation (June 21, 2010) and found it full of legal jargon and missing a few major points I’d like the racing community to know. In siding with Impact in our prelimary injunction against SFI’s intended cancelling of our contract with them last week, the court considered many facts that haven’t been officially released at this point.

SFI continues to reference incidents that occured in the years of 2007 and 2008. This is a period when I was personally not involved with day-to-day operations of the company and had left many matters to my management team at the time. Upon the recent issues we’ve had with SFI over the past year and my returning to the business full-time again because of such, we’ve investigated these issues and found that there were significant problems caused by that management team (which has since been fired) that have obviously jeopardized Impact greatly and caused confusion and headaches for all of our valued customers and the motorsports world. We’ve presented evidence of this to the court in this latest hearing and are conducting even further investigation into the matter and will hopefully someday be able to let the motorsports community know the entire story behind this mess.

Since I have been back and am involved 100% with the company again (since January of 2009) I can attest we are making the highest-quality safety equipment and that we are following all certification standards by all of the certifying bodies we work with. I am actively involved with my new management team here at both our headquarters and our production facility and can confidently say that what we are producing exceeds most standards.

The judge in our recent case in the United States District Court, Southern District of Indiana, concurred with Impact that SFI could not cancel our contract at this time pending SFI providing Impact with a fair hearing.

I'm sorry, but as I recall, the affidavit says that Bill directly ordered the fake cert. tags.

Bill has done many wonderful things in his life to advance safety in motorsports. But the cluster that marked that sale/takeover of Simpson, and the checkered history of Impact since then are not among them.

I still don't understand why anyone, given the many other names out there who make quality safety equipment (Simpson, RCI, GForce, SRP, Sparco, and on and on), would give their business to Impact? Why take a chance with your safety? It just doesn't make sense...

What’s Really Going On With The IMPACT Racing and SFI Foundation Controversy - Onedirt.com

affidavit is a bit toward the bottom

We bought an Impact /15 suit in December, 2008. It was sent back several times because of fitment problems (they take custom measurements but only build close to those measurements). They got fixed but it took a ton of effort, no timing promises upheld, many unreturned calls . . . all of this occurred in early 2009. Also got /15 boots . . . many things omitted from the construction of those, but also fixed after complaints. I'll admit the whole process wore me out. At least 5 times during the process I called and asked to speak directly to Bill. Left phone number and e mail addresses multiple times. No returned calls from Bill ever . . . believe me I had a huge chain of accumulated e mails documenting promises, broken promises, and the significant effort that went along with my $2600 trying to get safety equipment.

Ordered a Simpson /15 suit after the deal blew up again in April, 2010. Suit came in exactly when promised, fitment wasn't perfect sent back and fixed exactly correctly when promised. No drama at all.

Things just seem a little out of control at Impact when it comes to custom orders. I'll hold on to the suit, but I want my driver in the Simpson suit if at all possible
