A/FD and A/FC with clutch management becomes the new Top Fuel and Funny Car. Plus we would be back to 1/4 mile! This is so simple and cheap (relatively)! Add soft walls and just about all our current issues with safety, competition and cost are resolved.
take away blown nitro and you take away more than half the fans. Nitro may get very expensive soon and that will really hurt the self funded teams.

Me too. For 1/4 mile. 😉
I am back and fixed, thank you. As far as 1/4 mile you will never see it again. I never went 300 just under, I would have loved to go 400mph plus. but the finish line to the rock pit with out a chute even with carbon brakes is a butt pucker. If you have never driven one, no one will ever understand.

I know it wasn't for me but this is a discussion board afterall :)

My two cents, the solution is simple. Stop supergluing every track, it doesn't have to be balls to the wall on every pass. An independent showing up knowing they have a good shot at some round wins would increase car counts. The NHRA got "too good" at what they do to the point that every track is, on the surface, just as good as the last one.

I'm sure it's not a popular opinion but as stated above something needs to be done.
Couldn't agree more. Take a track walk and at 1,000 ft you are stuck like a fly on fly paper. What happened a couple years ago when NHRA started to prep tracks less?

whatever is the cause of this hiatus by scrappers, nhra might want to start calling some independents
if they want a 16 car ladder @ epping. if torrence doesn't go, you've got 9 full times that will show (maybe 10 if ida)

Thanks for the update, light the the candles for another pass👍

Bob Reese, please explain why IHRA will make it cheaper?????????
Did I say they would?

If ( IF IF IF, again I say IF ) they do then more teams would choose the IHRA. Clay Millican was multi year champion there. In the NHRA he struggled. All you need is cubic $$$$$. Clay already brought the heart and determination. Some racers can't sustain all 3 sadly.

Start with one mag, less % nitro, less blower displacement and less sticky stuff on the tracks and see where it takes them....

1/4 mile is gone for good I’d say. The risk trying to whoa these things down is to great. I’ve never gone 300 but I’ll attest that the pucker is real when you’re staring at the end of the shutdown.

Some years back (pre covid) NHRA tested a different engine combination. If i recall correctly T Wilk ran it on Monday after a few races. I believe the purpose was trying to figure out a combo to run slower.
I spoke with Tim today. I should've asked him. I know there was a time when he and Austin Coil were testing two different combinations. One had more compression, less blower and the other had less compression and more blower. both cars had 4 disc clutches.

Well, if you think that is supergluing, you should walk on a radial tire prepped track.

Another problem is running new fuel cars on a track that's designed 50-70 years ago.

You've given the fans 3.60 top fuel cars and 3.70 funny cars..A second plus slower and no blowers will never be accepted by the fans.
