Sanctioning body makes self serving decision

No it is not NHRA but very interesting read............

Penny Wise, Pound Foolish

UGH....

Is no where safe from NASCAR? I used to love SPEED because it showed all sorts of racing, then they became a NASCAR channel.

I love NBC Sports Network for the same reason I loved SPEED once upon a time. Lot's of racing OTHER than NASCAR.

I should say....I used to love NBC Sports Network. Here comes NASCAR, again...

Speed will become FOX SPORTS 1 next week. By-By motorsports.

With NASCAR leaving ESPN, maybe ESPN will help market the dying NHRA.

With Fox maintaining the broadcast rights for the first half of the NASCAR season, practice and qualifying will still be shown on Fox Sports 1 much like it is now on SPEED.

That article is an interesting read, and could prove to be a double whammy for teams. Many teams sponsorship contains a lot of chase clauses/bonuses, and now some of the chase races will be on deep cable, further diminishing any team not in the chase chances of maintaining big sponsorship dollars late in the year, or reducing sponsor dollars for teams in the chase.

There are a lot of people here that want NHRA off ESPN. It begs the question is it better for NHRA to pay to be on ESPN (and starting in 2015 the ONLY motorsports on ESPN) and maintain the highest level of visibility or move to deep cable and maybe NHRA gets paid but it further reduces visibility for the teams in terms of sponsorship?

I have thought for awhile that there should at least be a partial pool for teams to share.

Walmarts isn't likely to make a deal with each team to sell shirts but they would be more likely to make one deal to sell many shirts. The more you put the product in front of people the better it is for the sport. Teams ideally split a chunk of that money.

Obviously more goes into it than that but no reason to bore people here :)

Is it wrong to hope that with Nascar leaving ESPN that maybe they will show NHRA some love. Perhaps some mentions on Sportscenter that do not involves crashes and explosions. Hopefully more favorable time slots.

The tone of that article certianly runs different than others I've read. NBC didn't steal Nascar-ESPN + Turner had 1st rights of refusal-and did refuse.
Speedvison was great-Speed was only so-so for the most part. How many repeats of Pinks you Really need? How much racing content has ther been over the last few years?
So now NBC has 1/2 the Nascar season-F1-and Indycars. This is over only the last couple of years. Maybe they're trying to be the leader in motorsports? (As in -can we hope they go after NHRA?)

The biggest loser in this is the Indy Cars. They are going to take a backseat to NASCAR. F1 should ok as most of their races are on very early in the am.

The reason SPEED has been so bad with all of the re-runs etc, is because Fox has basically stopped funding that network's programming for about a year now. All monies have been funneled to the launch of Fox Sports 1. So get all of the Pass Time and Trucks! you can now, August 17 is fast approaching.

History has shown it is a very bad business decision to base your network's programming on motorsports, the ratings never have supported that model. I think NBCSN has done a great job with F1 and they are stuck with IndyCars from the old Versus days, and I am pretty sure that contract is over by the time the NASCAR contract takes effect in '15. I dont think NBCSN is actively trying to have so much motorsport as they are trying to build a sports network brand and I don't expect for IndyCar to stick around in '15 on NBCSN when their contract is over.

I would say as long as ESPN has college football (specifically SEC football), they will do just fine.

If you think about it with NHRA trying to make Drag Racing viewer friendly with shorter turn around times, less oil downs etc.

It's to benefit one entity and one only NHRA! The teams don't benefit with the exception of possible sponsors which the NHRA already controls.

Monster Energy didn't choose to leave NHRA, NHRA changed the rules to exclude them because Coca Cola didn't want the competition!
