So Asher writes a right on target article foretelling the oncoming demise of Pro Stock. You and your partner who have totally dominated the season thus far step back and take in the full breadth of the current situation.

You've both already clinched your spots to make a run for the championship for the year. This is the premiere showplace for your main competitor to try and make some kind of showing. The clock is winding down fast and the world champ is out of the running.

So, after some serious contemplation, you make a decision. Back it down just a taste, and let the other team shine, and in doing so, maybe delay for a little while longer, what seems to be so sadly, the inevitable, for your eliminator.

Nah, never happen, what the hell do I know ?
 
Or maybe in conditions you only run in once a year the other guys n gals have a better set up. All this handwringing over their dominance is silly. Look at the history of Pro Stock and you will see other times when a competitor has ruled the roost for a year or two. Eventually other teams catch up. The future of Pro Stock has little to do with the current competitive balance but it's over all relevance.
 
Nobody cried when Glidden ran the table for years, or when Warren had a tenth on the field. Greg Anderson won 13 National events in a season....... None of them dominated forever.
 
Obviously there has been many questionable rounds with points implications that have had a strategic "pre-determined" out come. But to think any guy out there would lay down in any rank to make another team or class look good just isn't going to happen. The whole KB team is trying to get as many Wally's as humanly possible. Not to mention, even though they have great funding, giving up a round or race win takes money out of their pocket. Denver is a tricky place as we all know and for a team to not put the amount of effort in to just one race in todays environment is understandable.
 
The KB cars was still the team to beat on Sunday. Jason and Bo met up, and then the next round Greg was late and Jason went red. I am glad Allen Johnson won because it was like the old days when he wasn't Mopar funded and still won their race. But he did say something good about Mopar so maybe the split was not as bad as I thought.
 
Anyone who thinks any racer is going to lay down for another team ignores that when points and prestige matter; feeding your ego by dominating over the competition is the way it's done.
 
I must be incapable of conveying a message. Prestige, pride, points are all irrelivent, IF Pro Stock goes the way of Pro Stock Truck. With every Mopar bigwig on the property at their sponsored race, when the Mopar PS effort has been abysmal for the entire season, it is all together prudent, smart and strategic to help them shine to try and prevent a termination of the eliminator.
 
Bob, there's no way that this was orchestrated. For too many reasons to get into. What I saw was a fantastic event this weekend, with outcomes that made me happy, not every race is like that. There was a big crowd all weekend, the live aspect on Fox was great for the sport, and some dry spells were broken. Can it not be that simple?

I get what you’re saying and while that’s one way to look at it, the season so far has been a race for 4th place behind the Summit cars. Allen Johnson’s Mopar has steadily held that position and it’s not a stretch at all to think he’d be the first to break through the Summit dominance. Racing is tight enough that all it took was for the Summit team to falter slightly to be beaten. They've been tough, but nobody is invincible.

And while Erica and Jeg have admittedly struggled previously, Erica’s Mopar was consistently one of the quickest cars in qualifying at this race. My opinion is that it would take a conspiracy beyond just the Summit cars to make the Mopars artificially shine, and I just don’t see that happening. I also don't see the results of one race doing much to help Pro Stock's struggle for relevance - but I do see your point.

As Nunzio said, it was refreshing to see a different winner!
 
Not to denigrate Greg in ANY WAY, but, one significant difference here is that Glidden built his own engines (for the most part,) and secondly, that Glidden did it 100% with engines that were not the "norm" for the class. I think that sets him apart.... way apart...
