"the race track shouldn't be the thing that kills you". The sand trap acted as a launch ramp, hitting a camera boom on the way over the catch net, crashing head on into the concrete wall at the end of the track. Had things been done correctly, we would still have Scott with us.

Pat,

And that's the one thing that makes this deal so much harder to take in. As with Blaines crash in 96, if the tracks had everything set up right, we wouldn't have lost such champions and wonderful people. It's a real kick to the stomach :(

I know it's a terrible tragedy for Conrad and Scott's family .
I know Its making me very sad . I was watching ESPN news and a BUSH driver sent his condolences to Conrad and the family.
Automobile racing is indeed one big family in times of trouble.
RIP Scott !

I don't know what to say ..When I found out the news last night, I just felt very ill. Man, This hurts ....I have followed this sport for a long time, it just doesn't get any easier when we lose someone no matter what the situation.

My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone..The families , the entire NHRA racing community and all fans ..Just a sad , sad , day ...

R I P Scott...You will be missed..but not forgotten ..

Come, my friends,
'Tis not too late to seek a newer world.
Push off, and sitting well in order smite
The sounding furrows; for my purpose holds
To Sail Beyond The Sunset, and the baths
Of all the western stars, until I die

Wish I could say I was numb. This goes beyond that.
My Heart and Love goes out to Kathy and the boys.

I have no words to express what I'm feeling to Connie right now. As one father to another, you have my thoughts and prayers.

Everyone at or involved with Team Kalitta , all I can give you is my love, support, and prayers.

Here is a snipet from the :: Western Sydney International Dragway :: press release.. (the track in which Scott still holds records at) I'm sharing this quote, because I think it sums up the racer we all knew Scott to be...

"When he came out for the first Boxing Day event in Sydney, he had a genuine smile on his face about racing for racing’s sake, he is forever the passionate Drag Racer…"

“What I am loving about racing in Australia is we are concentrating on gettin’ down that quarter mile here. Many people know I am not the biggest fan of all the media stuff, entertaining sponsors and all that. I know we have to do that (sponsors and media) but for me, it is all about racing these cars. That’s what I love to do and down here we just want to race hard and put on a good show for the Australian fans here… and that suits me just fine. Racing in Australia is about pure Drag Racing, which sometimes we can lose back home…”

"May we never forget that Scott Kalitta Drag Racing passion!"

I cannot say any thing that has not already been said....God please help the Kalitta family & team & give them the strength they will need to get through these tough times ahead.

Our condolences to the Kalitta family and team. May the Lord bless you and keep you in you time of grief.

Drag racing gives you chance to meet and talk to the drivers , you get to see them up close. Sadly when they die , you may have just talked to them that day. What must come of this is to prevent it from taking another life.
Develop a system to catch the cars, like a high net with a pulley sytem to slow them down, like those on Air Craft Carriers that slown down the Jets landing. And not having hard barriers like the cement wall at end of track.
Changes were made after Russell and Medlen, lets not wait on this one either, someone can and will solve this problem. Or else the sport will be the next victim. Rest well Scott. And have a cigar.
