It's hard to believe that such a huge facility only lasted about 10 years.

At least nearby Fontana Speedway has lasted longer, but it's too bad it doesn't have a full National Event-style 1/4 mile drag strip.

Fontana does have a 1/4 mile drag strip - the only one left in southern California other than Famoso in Bakersfield. They host some pretty large events, but it's not "National Event" style in the sense it doesn't have a big tower and lots of bleachers.

But regarding Ontario, it's demise was quintessential California. To quote one singer of the era, "They paved paradise, and put up a parking lot."

The timing tower at OMS is now living life as a security tower down by gate 17 located near the sand trap at the Fairplex at Pomona.
