Hey Mike, you are so right to be concerned. I am sickened by the nearby development right along SR64, the road the track is along. I made a mental note to look at my odometer between the end of development (for now) and the track, and it was 1.2-1.3 miles away. Total stupidity on the part of developers. Idiots will certainly buy homes in those developments without ANY due diligence as to the proximity to the drag strip, and once they realize the noise carries, they'll go to the county and complain that the track needs to be shutdown. All this going on right at the same time Victor Alvarez has poured a bunch of money into the track as the current owner. Totally sucks to know what is coming. This track used to be 5 miles from almost ANY development, but money from greedy developers usually corrupts things. Here are two links that explain what is going on. The 2nd link is actually a pretty cool compromise that the developer of the huge Lakewood Ranch community has proposed, which is to create a designated racer oriented section of homes closest to the tracks.
People in that section of the community have to sign a waiver stating they will never object to the noise as they "chose" to move close to the race tracks. Just may work!
