racing cancelled today. was watching utube yesterday or tuesday testing. someone mentioned they thought more cars there this weekend
than for the snowbirds. 32 car field could be extremely tight.
First round pairing have been announced. 68 cars in the field. Looking forward to it.

is it just me? or is there less pre-race hype this year? notable names not on competitor lists.
wes/drag illustrated not, or not as involved as they were last year?
wondering if shootout is pay to play? and guys like clay, matt hartford, and cruz have opted to sit it out?
alexis pulled out as soon as she announced move to jcm, who is also not a player this year.
anyone seen a list of sportsman entries?

Good question. Clay has said he definitely will not be there, so certainly something is not up to snuff like the last one.

thanks chris. i did not see/read where clay stated he would not participate. did he talk about it on one of his utube videos?

I asked basically the exact same question about a real lack of hype this year back at the bottom of page 2 of this thread. Never got an answer. Sounds to me like this could be the last year of this event. I hope not, but I guess we will find out.

I think the future of this event hinges on how successful the IHRA Nitro Jam series is, and how quick it gets up to speed . We have a real shortage of Nitro cars already , and if you add in 8 more races, they will be spread awfully thin.

.......guess we will find out.
agreed jon. or this will just become a test session disguised as a race, which is fine with me.
guess we'll see what happens next year when season start goes back to pomona.
selfishly i hope this event remains popular right where it's at.

I'm guessing they'll go back to Phoenix in some form next year but could wait and do Bradenton before Gainesville as a test session.

In the history of the sport, there have been many large-purse, heavy-hype events intended as a protest against perceived mistreatment (rightly or wrongly) by NHRA. They make a big splash and seem to fade away the following year. This feels a lot like what has happened so many times before. I think the racers (banded together through PRO) were feeling under-appreciated for the last several years, particularly with the NHRA purses. That sentiment was the fuel for the success of last year's event. I think it was inevitable that there would be less enthusiasm this year. Add to that the recent announcement of purse increases and I think the wind is completely out of the sails for this year's event.

I think Scag had alot to do with the $$$ last year. Maybe they didn't see the return on investment

article this morning on complus talking about competitors this week. at the beginning of article it states there will be 11 in both FC and TF,
and 14 in PS. curious to see who the mystery 11th driver will be in FC, as there has been an advertised 10 since alexis disappeared from website roster.
could chad green have a 2nd car ready with blake?
could cruz be a last minute addition?
could alexis/jcm be a last minute addition?
or will they just have 10 FC's?

Alexis was on the website whenever I last checked weeks ago. She is not there. Also missing Cruz, though I don't recall seeing him. Either way, this is disappointing with these car counts. The 8 that will race are all fantastic, but the qualifying could have been SO much more entertaining and exciting!
