Hasn't Greg Anderson or Jason Line held the MPH record (until last week's Houston race) for several years? Edwards 212.03 record run in Houston was far better than any other car. I think saying Warren has more HP than the field is more retrospective than anything. He used to, but doesn't anymore. And yes...his chassis tune up continues to be a challenge. I don't understand why Kurt's car is consistent and Warren's isn't. It was that way all last season as well.

The field has narrowed, but Greg and Jason are still the cars to beat each week. We all look at their numbers as a barometer for how the rest of the field is doing.
On the WJ/KJ consistency issue--I too have a great amount of respect for the knowledge and the contributions to pro stock via WJ. And John' got a point about relative HP if what we all have believed is true for sometime--ET is setup (to a large degree) and MPH is HP. (My gosh, a Chevy and a Mopar guy agreeing again?) But the consistency issue brings to mind an interview I saw long ago that still makes me chuckle to this day:

It was early in Kurt's driving career, and he was notorious for playing with the car, usually to the detriment of the car's performance. When interviewed about the situation, WJ replied something to the nature of: "I'm gonna go get that car straightened out and then weld all of the 4 link in place". That being said, I can't help but wonder if time, as it often does, has turned those tables?:D

w.j certainly has the horsepower, but as john and terry have said, its in chassis set-up that has warren inconsistent. i wonder if warren tries different stuff? sort of an R and D car while kurt is much more consistent. i wanna know what mike edwards found over the winter, he has been creeping up last year too but this year- WOW! he found a few HP to say the least. 212.03 just awesome! i believe when the smoke clears it will be 1 of the summit cars, jeggie and allen johnson fighting for the title in the last 3 events. with mike edwars right there also. although im a summit team fan, i really like the diversity this year, its so much fun to watch knowing ANYONE can win at any given event. and still @ 1320 feet

It's going to be an awesome year in Pro Stock. I see the Summit cars and Jeggie as the three to beat with Allen Johnson as a long shot to compete for the crown. Edwards will be strong with Kurt right there with AJ. All of that is mute if Connolly gets behind the wheel of his Chevy. If he does, and makes the Chase, I see him as the driver to beat.

Go Dave...GOOOOO!

The only problem is Connolly gets super red hot before the chase and then fizzles out like a flat soda when it really counts. I want dave to win too but it seems when the pressure is on he cant keep it together.

It's neat seeing Dave in a Dodge, but I'm not sure there's enough steam under that hood to make the Sunday shows. The only Dodge motors capable of consistently qualifying are built by Roy. He doesn't have one of Roy's bullets. I'll cross my fingers, but I won't hold my breath!

There was one year that wj was not qualified after 3 rounds and then he made a good run and they asked him how he did it and kurt said he finally listened to him.

Hey, John, Dave got in in the Kaptain's car! Good job Kenny and well done, Dave--good to see you in the field. This is when Dave is the most dangerous--just a little down on performance---he seems to be at his best when he knows he needs to make up a little on the tree to be a potential winner--and he's very good at it...it will be interesting. And thanks to KK for getting Dave a ride if even for only a couple of races

Just saw Dave on NHRA Today...very cool to see Dave back at the track! I hope you're right referring to Dave in eliminations...I'd like to see him go a few rounds. That reminds me...does anyone have "The Punk" poster from a few years back. I loved that!

sigh....another victim eaten by the worm:p

How about that Mike Edwards....His in-house program got running in a hurry.

I would rate the current inhouse programs like this:
Mike Edwards
KB Racing
Warren Johnson Enterprises
Cagnazzi Racing
J&J Racing
Roger Hammonds
Greg Stanfield
LMR

Quiz: What do all of these programs except KB racing have in common?

Bonus: What does KB Racing have that no one else has?? (Not the same answer as the above question)

Im still in favor that the Mopar programs are stepping it up little by little each year....I think as soon as these guys figure out a few of the little kinks your going to see alot more Mopar cars in the winners circle.

I won't wade into these waters today but I will give you this:

O.K. I'll supply the answer:

CFE does most of the heads with the exception of KB racing

Wilson Manifolds provides KB racing with Intake manifolds...no one else can get them.

Great post guys. I'm fascinated with the art that is a Pro-Stock motor.

Can you tell me more about CFE?
If they specialize in cylinder head porting, swirling, etc... would the heads be proprietary to them and the teams are just leasing the head?

If Wilson is exclusive to KB, do the other teams contract with other intake companies (Hogan?) or do they choose to make their own sheet metal intakes?

On a side note, I've been really impressed with how well Jason has been driving this year. Its great to his reaction times winning races instead of only brute horsepower.
