In the Pro classes is a flat plane crankshaft legal?
I assume they're not in stock classes if they weren't OEM like a Mustang GT350 but in reading the Pro Stock rules, I don't see anything saying you can't. Warren Johnson tried it for a while...tried 180 degree headers also...and other than a unique sound and a pain in the ass to work around the headers there was no advantage. Pretty sure the current engine builders would concur or else they'd be running them.

I remember reading a report in the late-1970s(?) about Gary Beck running a non-championship race with a flat crank (presumably Keith Black?). Said it sounded like "1,000 Volkswagens".
