Pomona (3 Viewers)

95% chance of rain today (Saturday) and only 47% chance of rain on Sunday. Looks like we are headed towards qualifying/eliminations based on current point standings. That should prove interesting as crew chiefs and drivers will need to be on their game big time. For crew chiefs how much do you pull the car back and not turn it into a pooch For drivers be prepared to earn your keep, how hard do you press the lights and be ready to grab a hand full of brake in an effort to save the run. Conditions will favor the less horsepower cars and should prove interesting for us spectators to watch.
This will be critical for Doug Kalitta to win first round. He would have clinched by making just one qualifying run. Now, if he loses first Rd, that will open the door for a showdown for the Championship.

Not true. If they set the field by points, everyone will get their qualifying points. And if he loses, 1st round loser points will seal the deal. Doug is the Champ! Again.

Oh! I hadn't thought of that. Thanks for the additional insight, Alan.

I hope Doug wins. He has done so well over the years, with several very close (see "The Run") 2nd place finishes to his credit. If he wins a 2nd Championship, it will be well-deserved.

Forecast doesn’t look good for today or tomorrow or even Monday.
How long can the NHRA go before calling the event and naming the points leaders the Champion?

Heavy liquid sunshine currently. 20251115_094318.jpg

I'm just trying to understand why not push it to next weekend?
The awards banquet is on the 17th at Pechanga Resort Casino kind of hard to crown champions without a season ending race also cancelling the venue of the banquet would be costly. Teams/crew members already have formal wear rented, hotel reservations/flights home made. To push it back a week would create a giant expense for team owners and NHRA. Everyone has to do their best to race either Sunday or Monday.

Not to high jack thread, think how nice it would be to pull back glue on dry tracks and not only save on parts but increase same competive atmosphere of whole team, just my thoughts, now back to hoping they get race in👍

Brad, and your sure they can race at Pomona next weekend?
Weather wise they likely could. According to Weather Underground there's a chance of showers Friday morning, then clear and low 70s for the rest of the weekend with rain chances zero. Pity it's such a difficult if not impossible task to move the race to that weekend.

The only shot at racing this weekend is Sunday, where a 50% chance of light intermittent showers and temps around 60 is predicted. If it proves to be too much then I reckon it's see-ya in Gainesville next March.

If the future radar they showed on the Weather Channel earlier is accurate, we have a chance to get this in tomorrow. Running round 1 right off the trailer should be entertaining.

Plus there's 11 cars on the entry list, so #1 will get a BYE in round one.
