What am I missing here? Millican loses a run in qualifing. Kalitta loses a run in eliminations. McMillen does not.

he won the round but did get charged the penalty monetary and points and lost lane choice. thats what happens in elims. in qualy's you lose the run, points, and money.

Kalitta did not lose a run in eliminations. He won first round just like McMillen and both received a 10 point penalty plus a $$ fine. Kalitta lost his second round race but still gets docked more points and $$ for what was his second oildown of eliminations. It is how the system works.

In my opinion it was an ugly weekend for Oil. I know it was Indy and its go big or go home ... but I believe there were something like 13 oildowns just from the Fuel classes (mostly TF). Many of which occurred in one session on Sunday. Then Monday started off with a "bang" as well.

That's what turns off spectators and certainly doesn't create an ideal situation for ever having Live TV on a regular basis. Look at the impact the Stocker oildown had in the Finals. If that was a 1/4 mile oildown ... Live Pro finals would not have happened.

Oildowns already impacted the Countdown and we haven't had the first race yet.
  • McMillen missed by 8 points - Would have made the countdown with a clean run.
  • Schumacher oiled the track more than once (which is rare) and it changed his final seeding in the countdown.
  • Same with Doug Kalitta. He went to the second round, but due to oildowns only received a total of 10 points (plus qualifying points) instead of 40 for getting to Rd. 2 and he slid down the final standings.
