Just to make shure everybody knows. As of the end of Pomona Icard is not being brodcast. $ issue. Teams were not happy. We'll see hat happens in Phoenix??????

Here is the response I received from ICARD. I hope it is up and working for Phoenix as I just got one and would Like to use it or I will hve to re sell it.

Hello Doug,

The situation at NHRA is in limbo right now. What happened at Pomona was that someone in NHRA decided that we needed a new contract for this year, but they didn't tell us until we showed up at the race to get it hooked up.
I can assure you that we are agressively pursuing an agreement with them prior to Phoenix. I had a phone conference with NHRA yesterday which went well, and we are attempting to get all the parties together to work out an agreement within the next few days.

We appreciate your enthusiasm for our products and are doing everything we can to continue the level of service we've had in the past.

Sincerely,

Hey can you guys explain what the Icard is/does?

I believe you use a Nintendo Gameboy, and plug the i-card where the game goes. You are able to monitor all the incrementals for each run. Fans like them, and teams use them. If you watch some of last year's events, you'll occasionally see a team member holding a gameboy.

Why does it not suprise me that NHRA would wait until the event to say BTW, we have a new contract before we can allow you to broadcast.

Why does it surprise me that Big Brother always has their hand out sucking the blood out of everyone. And that is the bottom line.

Nunzio,
We have the USB version of the ICard and it not only brings up all the incrementals on each car on each run, but it can then be stored on your laptop for later comparison. This proves quite valuable to fans and teams alike. I still have incremental times from all professional classes from races past that I can compare to today's times. That's another value and for those who don't believe the sport is progressing, they really need one of these to view the evolution with their own eyes.

Keep in mind that the NHRA does, in fact provide these times on a printout for the teams but the fans are left in the dark unless they have a friend in the pits who will share the information. It's really nice to see the data that accompanies the competition. It speaks volumes.

I wish CY Smith all the luck in the world getting a contract signed but it really raises questions when someone provides such a valued service why it should be difficult to come to terms. I would think such a service would be welcomed with open arms? NHRA, once again, seems to have only open hands?

Yes, the teams get the printouts, but not until they are back in the pits after the session is over. With the iCard, teams can monitor incramentals in real time, allowing them to make adjustments to the tune up while sitting in the staging lanes. This is really beneficial to multi-team cars with similar tuneups.

Hope they get it together for you guys @ NHRA races.

We use both the USB and the portable iCard Pro version. Now that we're used to having them as not only an additional tool.....but a little fun between rounds, I'd be lost without it!

It was down @ one of the IHRA races last year. The att. on the tower had been blown down in a storm and didn't get put back up. I really missed having it at that race. :(

Not only do the Pro cars use it as Doc said. Sportmen racers also use Icard. In Super classes its great. Many top teams use a GREAT program called "Crew Chief Pro". Icard is used in the program to track class performance and input the data from the run into the program.

We also keep the Icard up on the computer to keep track of how the pros are doing while we service the race car. Its nice.

I was told that the tech. is in place to issue a code # to access the Icard data based on paying a fee. I hope it dosent come to that. We'll see next week I guess??????

I bought an Gameboy advance plus an I-card Pro as soon as NHRA announced they were available in '04-'05?. That Gameboy got stolen or lost at Chi-town last year, I found a replacement around Dallas but the Type-face of the Gameboy was like Italics, very strange!

I was pretty upset about it not being at Pomona. Its really makes pro stock fun to watch. You get to see the reaction times which they dont always announce. And its cool to see how everyones 60' times match up.
NHRA screws up again. I wish they would give discounts for all their errors.
