The scoops on the Buell were designed by Star.

You know when they designed the scoops, they were trying to get as much air in the engine as possible to produce more HP. Now Matt Smith is saying that it was a bad design from the beginning and it causes too much drag.....I guess they should have thought about that when they designed them!

I want to agree as it is much better then it was a few years ago, but if they all can't make the same changes then it still isn't even

This scoop "controversy" just begs for some Smokey Yunick style creativity. I'm not familiar with the specific wording of the rule but... How about a "baffle" inside the scoop? It might extend past the front of the scoop and flare to smooth the airflow over the edges of the scoop without actually contacting the edge of the opening and thus making it "smaller" . If that's tooo obvious, how about simply adding a small "aero stabilizer" to the front fork/ fairing area for "safety". It might direct air over a portion of the scoop opening, but anything for safety right?
Point being, creativety accomplishes what complaining may not.

I don't understand the need for a rule in this area to start with. Hell, I can remember back in the day when the Pro Stock cars used to design/try different scoop configurations all the time. There are even subtle changes on a regular basis currently. I could BARELY understand a difference if the controversy was between two completely different combinations, but both bikes are V-twins so why not have whatever dumba$$ rule that is in place with regards to scoops be the same?

Like I said earlier, I don't understand a rule in this particular area to start with. And if what Matt said about the surface area of the opening being comparable/equal to that of a Pro Stock car is true, then yeah, that seems ridiculous REGARDLESS of who designed it.

Just look at the qualifying ladders where they are running and you will see why that won't work. Half dozen hitters and the rest as much as a full second off.

If there was a purse for our class there would be a lot more "hitters" at the NHRA. We did have an all 6 second field in Houston. IHRA pays better with no entry fee and have conflicting dates. I paid $310 to enter plus $85 per crew member and got $600 to lose 1st round. I'm not complaining, just trying to explain.
