NHRA Tech says to DSR Top Fuelers "Take It Off"!

Michael, you can say what you want but I've been involved in Drag Racing for over 35 years and there is no way any team would wait 19 races to complain about something as stupid as this is, just like the Fuelgate in Vegas. There was no complaint G. Light does not like Don S. and that's a fact.

No Jesse, that's not a fact, that's your OPINION.

Geeze; where's the beating a dead horse icon when ya need it?

Hight & Neff ran heads-up too!!!

BFD & let it go!!!

Sorry, but if it was Force against one of his 2 cars still in the hunt Force would have went into the tank. Recent history has proven this and since Seattle 2004ish history has shown DSR races heads up.

Ok-just cuz I can-I'm gonna pose 3 questions:

How many races did Tony win without the cover?
How many since installing it?
Could this just be easier than smashing all your own stuff and calling it a break-in?
Thats enough-this tinfoil hat is getting itchy.....:p

yes historically very true, but with Neff in a battle for the top and Hight, although not out of it, was still in catch up mode. I was betting a Hight traction issue on the first pass. it was nice to see a true race

This issue seems real clear to me. Go back and read the posts from Terry Almy and Nick Dobda, they both understand the issue from a technical perspective and aren't making wild emotional accusations and opinions.

I was reading through this thread, and I have to say that I side with DSR here. Apparently, the shroud was available to others if they wanted it:

It was clear that Graham Light was being a Dimwit in this case. Or, if it really was another team, since AJ, JFR, and KB all denied it, then IMO it must be the guys with the gecko on the side....

Who, doesn't really mater. Anyone has the right to complain if they feel somethings wrong. Whats not right is nhra reversing it's approval with no study, halfway thru the CD.

If they change their mind, it should have waited till the off season.

NHRA hates DSR and LOOOOOOOVES JFR. Look at how much they fawn over him; They are going to give him the corral at the Finals and is the sole "walk the track with a star" personality.

The difference is that the Service Central funny car is not in the points chase.
Were it JFR, the out-of-the-chase car would have tanked.

This is the next problem the NHRA will face.

Although I highly respect everything Force is, and has added to this sport, the NHRA has gone to the point of making me hate seeing anything Force on TV. It's like a car dealership commercial that just won't go away, and makes me not want to buy anything from them.
Everything tied to an NHRA broadcast has Force spitting more of his worn out, high intesnity babble. In truth, I can't stand even going to a race anymore because it's just a total rerun of Force interviews.

I would highly suggest the NHRA stop riding the same horse that brought them to unexpected high levels of interest, and actually take serious interest in developing the new guard of race team ownership possibilities in the coming years. It ain't Courtney Force and the line of Force nepotism race cars.

If DSR decides they have had enough BS from the NHRA and pulls out, it's going to be a blow to the NHRA that they may not respect fully until they're gone..
Say what you want about DSR, but they have the most diverse and interesting program on the circuit right now. The NHRA seems eager take on DSR because it feels comfortable with stroking their own egos, but I would suggest they find out for once what it would be like to negotiate like gentlemen with high character, standing behind decisions, and doing business without their unfounded egos getting in the way.

No Tony that's "your opinion", it is a fact for as long as I can remember, but fuelgate is what really set it on its end. Graham Light needs to get his nose out of the air and quit talking like he is far superior to all. IHRA is coming and NHRA better take light. (Not Graham Light). There are several tracks in the southwest that have already switched to IHRA, the threat from them may be small now, but it is there, they will take the customers that NHRA is losing.

You are kidding right?? I never seem to have that problem, because I'm not at the races to watch what is up on the Motel 6 vision... I'm there to watch a little thing called "Racing"

According to to Comp+ articles, 2 different engineers studied the shroud before NHRA made their decision, with one saying it could be dangerous.

The really interesting point is that dsr has stated over and over that the shroud makes absolutely no performance gain, so what is the big deal about removing them now?

Is it because of their concern for safety? As I stated above, one of the engineers stated that it could be dangerous, isn't that a good reason to remove them now?

Dsr is asking, why removing with only 3 races left? Well either they make a performance difference or they don't, if they don't what's the big deal since their safety is in question?

The problem, Paul, is that we've been waiting three years for NHRA to come out with solutions to get the sport back to 1320' and the main reason they don't is because they don't want teams to have to make changes to their combination that could cost money or competitiveness.

But based on a single complaint from someone with little more than an axe to grind, NHRA comes out in 48hrs and makes a change to a team's cars in the middle of the playoffs. These cars are so touchy, and the points so close, that this "little change" could cost at least a few qualifying points and maybe a round one loss.

Really, with the points battle so close, why couldn't this wait until the season was over? It was an approved device after all.

NHRA can make this change in a heartbeat, but when to comes to the future of the sport, well, that takes time...

It's a BIG DEAL because the NHRA did not have a problem with it and OK'd it for all the races until Arizona. The BIG DEAL is the incompentence of an Organization to understand the decisions they make, and when repealed 3/4 of year later, it means they have egg on the their face.

The issue isn't competitive or not competitive advantage. It's the d*mn sanctioning body's decision making process.

Well, I'll leave the scarcasm for you.

I'm talking about the single most important measure of the sport's health if it want's to grow, and that's television ratings. What I see week in and week out is basically the same broadcast. Pick one, any one. Any year. Any track. It's all about John Force Racing.

This isn't about trying to disrespect John, his name is right there with Big, but it's very hard to not see right thru which team and owner get's NHRA's high gloss polish job on their rear end, and who's doesn't.
It's about jumping the shark for good, before the viewer turns the channel to the something more interesting.
As usual, the NHRA will be reactive instead of proactive..

Really ??? Might want to look at this before making such an off the cuff remark ...

:::Drag Racing Online::: Agent 1320 - 10/18/11

All of the little tracks that switch sanctions and support sportsman / bracket racing will have ZERO effect on the viability of NHRA especially as we all know fans do not go to watch anything but Professional Nitro Cars.

Me thinks IHRA is on the endangered species list

The Feld organization is making IHRA into another Monster Jam circus. Before you know they'll own the majority of the cars and plug in drivers just like they do with Monster Jam.

Your entitled to your opinion as am I. If you don't think NHRA is P***sing racers off, then you must live in fantasy land. Yea the sportsman racers are not that much for NHRA, just a drop in the bucket, but that is one less drop they are getting. This deal with DSR is just another BS deal from NHRA. So you can just turn a blind eye to another organization or respect what they are trying to do.

That "single complaint" was backed-up by an independent analysis with one engineer stating it could be dangerous.

As for the initial approval, once approved it can never be dis-approved?

The approval was granted as a safety device. It failed and could be dangerous and it should still be approved? Are you ok with the possibility of it being dangerous?

If as stated by dsr that the device does not provide a performance advantage then its removal should not provide a performance disadvantage. You cannot have both ways, no advantage when using, a disadvantage when removed.

It either affects performance or it doesn't.

If your referring to the Monster Truck show they call Monster Jam then the following paragraph applies:

I can't stand watching those Monster Jams. I used to love watching the "classical" monster trucks put on a show - that is when they were actually trucks and the drivers were just showing off. Nowadays they are not trucks in the least... in fact they don't even resemble trucks, they are shaped like bugs and animals and superheros... and to me that's TOTALLY RIDICULOUS!

That being said... I caught a glimpse of one of those on speed the other day, and I have never seen a venue so jam packed for a motor sports event. It was like the Queen concert at Wembley Field. I would imagine whoever runs Monster Jam's is making serious cash.

From a business standpoint, it makes sense that the IHRA is doing everything it can to mirror the Monster Jam series.

If the monster jam your talking about refers to something else, ignore this post.
