Before I get my panties in a huge bunch, One thing from the ruling. Don has filed a final appeal as outlined in Section 1.8.7 of the NHRA Rulebook.

The thing about this that sounds JUST WRONG, is that the APPEALS COMMITEE WAS COMPRISED OF ALL NHRA EMPLOYEES. What the heck kind of Appeal is that? No Independant appeals officer? I've been around of alot appeals in Union and Non Union settings, in my jobs, and I have NEVER heard of this.

Come on Tim.....There is no way nhra would do that!!!!

Would they????

I am w/ Greg w/ this one...Pay the fine and move along--they broke the rules, simple as that. He was not the first, just the first to get caught.

Let's take a look at how the events around NitroGate transpired:

1. NHRA announces fine for DSR having unapproved nitro.
2. Possible nitro shortage announced.
3. V.P. of VP fuel begs then threatens Mr. Schumacher.
4. Price of nitro begins to go up.
5. NHRA halts testing.
6. Nitro prices continue to climb.
7. Quality of nitro in question.
8. Price of nitro still climbing.
9. NHRA attempts to acquire nitro.
10. Supply still in question?

Now the important questions:

a. How did NHRA discover DSR was in possession of unapproved fuel.
b. When did VP fuel know they would not be able to supply enough nitro?

Hmmmm!

Appropriate that we have a reply from Down Under! Do we know which NHRA employees sat in on this Kangaroo Court?

Y'all need to get out your rulebook (you have one, right? All NHRA members get one), and read Section 1.8 (pages 31-36). This is exactly how the process goes. First appeal is by a standing appeals panel that is made up of NHRA employees.

That determination may be appealed with a "Final Appeal" per section 1.8.7 and that is heard by a different panel made up of one NHRA employee and two "members of the racing community". Those members must not have been a competitor in the current calendar year, have any financial or personal conflicts of interest with respect to the issue. The appealing party (DSR) can object to the makeup of the panel.

This is all very clearly spelled out, the process is very detailed, and appears to be being followed quite to the letter.

I'm callin Bravo Sierra on this. This NOT a good move on NHRA's part.

I love how it is NHRA's fault when racers break the rules. How DARE they?

If you guys had any balls you would support NHRA for this.

They caught someone that wasn't following rules and decided to do something about it. I say they did the right thing. And, it wasn't the first time that the team has been nicked for rules violations (skipping scales, loose shot etc)

But, of course, you couldn't say NHRA was Grahamwitted, or complain about Compton if you agreed with them enforcing rules, now could ya?

I have said it many times, if NHRA sucks so bad, go watch, or race IHRA. Especially if you think you can thumb your nose at the rules.

6a. NHRA institutes 1000 ft fuel racing for the foreseeable future.

The same NHRA that has been almost universally criticized for ignoring the wishes of racers and slow to react on safety issues suddenly makes a bold decision in favor of safety. The fact that 1000 ft racing will help alleviate the whole “nitro shortage” thereby helping (hopefully) to spare the NHRA and its official fuel supplier major embarrassment is only a happy coincidence….

I’m not a “conspiracy theory” kind of guy, but.....

Yep, you figgered it out.
NHRA took a beating going to 1000' after the death of a popular racer.

Why? Because the NHRA hates a team, fines them for silly rules, all because they have nitro(which, was sold on the open market) and to save face.

Tinfoil caps for everyone!

Actually, you have two of them reversed:

In order from left to right - Graham, Light and Compton.

Since posting pics to explain your thoughts on the situation is fashionable, wouldn't this one fit for a certain team?

Guess you can call this person from the dark side???

lmao
That sort of depends. Can he break rules and complain about his treatment? Oh, the flower pot is worth a pound or so. Put it under the seat. Before you interview on ESPN.

That looks NOTHING like Eckman and Orndoff, Wayne County (ALLEGEDLY) or even the NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS....

But, I do see your point... Breaking rules is very bad... WHEN YOUR INTENT IS TO ACTUALLY BREAK THEM. I however believe this pic best describes the situation:
