So I am a designer and I love drag racing, so I thought I would try to freshen up the classic oval. I know, I know, it is a classic. The reality is, the logo will probably never change. But it is fun to play around, anyway. See what you think.

Phd, huh Toby?

Those things don't grow on trees, buddy. That is one hell of an achievement.

Can't earn one of those without years of very hard work. I was a kid when my older sister's husband earned one back in the sixties. He literally worked almost all the time.

I would like one that included a car. I think as a kid I remember one either with dragsters ot tf and fc. Maybe they were older and I just saw them then. Anyway its amazing how many people see the one on my car and say something about guns.

The logo needs to give people who don't know what it is at least a clue. Right now it's kinda like a secret handshake. I know when I see another one driving down the road that they are in the brotherhood lol but nobody else around us can even guess what it is. I think the logo should also be able to advertise to the unlearned masses.

mine do say 'Championship Drag Racing', but, I too get the NRA question. Funny that when I was a kid, back in the Stone Age, 'everyone' in my neighborhood knew what the NHRA and the AHRA was, even had a couple of write ups a week in the local paper... and yes, they did have a 'car' on them, the car or cars changing over the years.

I like Your Logo, Toby. I just don't think that change, just for the sake of change, is necessary.

By the way, What are you 'Piled higher and deeper' in? I got lost in the alphabet after. Like Jim said, they just don't give them things away.

Karl- I have a PhD in kinesiology/physical education. I am on faculty at Texas Tech University in the athletic training program. I do the design stuff for fun and extra income. I agree with the previous posts that the logo could stand to be a bit more representative to an unknowing public. I guess I was just trying to freshen up what we already have.

Toby- Thank You Sir for putting up with my irreverent BS.

Maybe carry a bit of a tail into the vertical leg of the 'R', as you did with the crossbar on 'H' and the 'A'. Maybe add a silhouette of a 'Pro Stock' looking blob in the upper quadrant.

And maybe do a quick study on an AHRA version?

By the by, Do you ever find time to read Robert A. Heinlein? Do try to read "The Number Of The Beast".

PJ, that logo had a FC facing one way and a TF'er the other, and also said "Dedicated to Safety". I always liked that one too. Kinda like this one:

the whole 'oval' trend in logo design seems to have come and gone, but
nhra has always been oval so in this case i don't mind it.
i like it.........maybe add a trailing serif to upper left of "H" to tie into "N"?
and maybe a very simple roofline silhouette of car above 'NHRA'?

I chose option 3 Dr. Toby.

A New BRAND logo would mean a NEW BRAND and new identity. Any new identity for the NHRA would be a BAD idea in my opinion. It's been subtly changing the direction of the NHRA for the past two-decades. But, unless it is the direction of NHRA to completely change their BRAND IDENTITY, and move forward, i'd leave it alone. I'd love a return to the old logo and old style philosophy - but....

But it is unique for certain. I'd personally center the NHRA within the background to start. It just kind of looks crooked to me as of now.

But, it's much better than I can physically do. I applaud your efforts.

I guess I'm a hybrid kinda guy there PEE-JAY.

Don't mess with the BRAND LOGO and IMAGE.. but IMPROVE THE SHOW.

NHRA does not NEED a new IDENTITY. They've got the name and BRAND going for them.... so keep it.

Sometimes change isn't good just like the 4 wide spectacle this weekend.
It was interesting but that was about it for me. I’m sure some enjoyed it!
I guess that’s what makes everybody different. I was on the fence when it was announced but now that I have watched it!
