The TAD and the TAFC have been treated poorly for years in my opinion.
The payout over the past 10 or 115 years has not really kept up with what others were paid.

NHRA pays the same as they have for many years but contingencies are way down. We won Vegas 2 in October 2009 and the Winternationals in 2012. The contingency payout was down about $4,000 in those three years due to less participation by the manufacturers in the program. I'm not sure where it is now but I doubt if it's gone back up.

That's not the point, he reportedly had a similar incident at the NHRA awards banquet and he didn't lose his job like Kyle Larson has. I believe he drove for a couple more years after that reported incident.
