NHRA Doing Away with it's Friday Top 12 Format?

Had the tracks improved as did the nitro performance. We would still have Scott.
Cars are going 100mph faster than when E-Town was built.
On another aspect, the average fan can't comprehend what he is seeing in 3.650 seconds. Just my thoughts.

It's not even worth talking about anymore. Under the current NHRA nitro rules, there will be no quarter mile racing.

Ticket prices and the price that the vendors charge wouldn't be a contributing factor would it?

But then again,They need to charge that much to pay the fuel bill so you can see Eugene on the East Coast! LOL!

A lot of tracks don't have the real estate to create a longer shut down area needed for the cars running today.
Maple Grove actually extended there shut down area across a back road including rail road crossing arms that come down when the pro classes run.
If they tried that in the Communist state of New Jersey, it would be shut down immediately being that the New neighbors already frown upon the track already.

I drive slow so I get pretty good fuel mileage. I think my food bill is higher then our fuel bill.;):)

Right now you have 4 qualifying spots guaranteed on Saturday. If conditions are great on Friday night and you don't run well and most others do, it maybe tough to make a good enough run to get in on Saturday. I have been on both sides of the Top 12 rule. There was a time years back that you really needed the Top 12 rule because if you missed the set up Friday night, you could run low ET on Saturday and still not make it in...didn't really make sense that you really only had one chance to get in. Now with the smaller fields, less night runs and way better track prep it's probably not an issue anymore. I always thought that if you wanted to make driver intro's more exciting that you would let the number 1 guy/girl pick who they wanted to race and then go to #2 and do the same until it was done. That would really create rivalries especially as you got closer to the Countdown.

I agree, the 12 spot format needs to be done away with. At first I was okay with it but now that it's been here a few years, I have seen too many drivers being screwed over by it.

As far as the idea of letting the top qualifiers picking who they want to race against? It is a cool idea until the top teams would consistently choose leakers knowing it would be an easy matchup.

16 poker chips in a bag, number two of them with a number 1, two with number 2, etc, and everyone picks a chip out of the bag. The two that have the same number that is the pair that race each other.

Then why even bother qualifying? (not arguing, just asking)

I've seen this in Sprint Cars qualifying. Asked why was told it gives teams some extra track time to flex there muscle.
