Military Sponsorships on Chopping Block?

Okay, military sponsorships are a cost effective recruiting tool for an all volunteer force. The money has to be spent in order to retain a level of personnel in the military because most folks do one enlistment and get out. Active duty folks have tons of resources to help off set some of their living expenses, as they should. If you want to talk about wasteful spending just look at the pork barrel way they distribute manufacturing of MV-22s, F-22s, F-35s & AAAVs accross 40+ states. With the death of conscription and the downsizing of the military that shuttered bases in many communities, race car sponsorship aids recruiting and helps connect a very disconnected populace with their warrior class.

What he is saying is without some sort of marketing mechanism to get people to enlist in our all volunteer armed forces, that enlistment may drop to the point where they would have to bring back the selective service/draft.

I enlisted in the Navy on my eighteenth birthday... so I wouldn't get drafted in the Army.
and yes, if open enlistment drops compared to need, a draft could be reinstated, or even mandatory conscription on your 18th birthday, male and female.

Well I can see the Democrats arent worried about the NASCAR contingent vote. We`ll teach them for voting Republician... No backbone Dems, lets cut it since they vote Rep. , unbelievable

IMO military spending is out of control, especially counter intelligence since
9/11..........if obama is trying to cut spending, including the military, then
adv't. monies to racing series is not out of question for trimming.
it is tangible to the public and could be a vote getter.
(there are many centrists/conservatives that could care less of auto racing)
on the other side of coin.........
there are many military tuition assistance programs
for youth who may not otherwise have the wherewithal to
pursue post-high school education........how do you get them to
notice the military option?.........advertise (recruit) and at the
same time maintain soldier levels - i do believe the demographics of
the military soldier and nascar/nhra fans are very similar.

Some of you whine that drag racing has lost sponsorships and yet when we have one, we bash them.
I'm a taxpaying American and if the military has a marketing budget to recruit and they choose drag racing as an avenue to spend my money, amen.
I think Don and Tony Schumacher have done a great job representing the U.S. Army. There's a reason why the U.S. Army re-ups each year.
Folks, they're going to spend the money somewhere, shouldn't it be in the sport we love?

Since 9/11 the military has been working with essentially an open checkbook. This is all starting to change now. There are tons of cuts being made. I have a feeling the motorsports/ recruiting budgets will be trimmed someday, which is sad, because I think they are a great recruiting tool. I agree with Bobby. Don and Tony do a great job promoting the Army every second of air time they get. Let's enjoy it while it's here.

I think sponsoring race teams is certainly a better bang for the buck than flying over a stadium that HAS A ROOF!

What we need to know is why this politician is doing this.... did she not get what she felt she should have in a donation from NASCAR for her campain?.. or did they suport his oponent?
DId one of his pet projects that he gets kick backs from get passed over....???
the possibilities are endless as to his REAL intentions here guys...
Anyone know the real reason Tobacco was pushed out of sponsorships?.. Ask Bill Clinton and anyone that was at Darlington raceway during his run for second term... it was like a keystone cop movie....lol

I think that the money that the Army spends on the Army TF dragster is just a tool in the recruitment toolbox. What effect it has on recruitment I don't have a clue. What I do know is that economics plays a major roll in a person making a commitment to the military. Believe me there are big enticements the military offers a recruit for his john hancock. Some have been 20k for choosing a combat mos (Infantry, Armor and Artillery), money for college, and other economic enticements. For these young men it is good deal/enchange for their service. In the new volunteer military for some services its a good deal and for others you have to survive to collect on the deal.

The only argument that should matter to Dems or GOPs is "whether or not the advertisng expense is justified based on measureable results".
Presumably, recruiter can point to metrics that support continued use of this (racing) ad venue. (Frankly, I can't think of a better targeted device.)
When the adverstising folks make their case it will be obvious that this is a political attempt to trap any NASCAR dad (who defends the expenditure) into looking like a hypocrite. Kinda' clever but not very transparent.
Time to publicize the value of our sport as an ad medium, eh?.

What next. I've been expecting this for a long time, actually. I used to joke with a friend of mine about Shoemacher's car. They have the Army sponsorship, I'm a US citizen and a taxpayer - so in essence - I'm personally helping fund that car..... so I should get unrestricted access to thier pit area and be his starting line guest at the races I attened!
You're also a consumer Chris- does that give you access to all the benefits you stated when you buy a case of Castrol/ Valvoline/ et al or purchase a Fram or K&N Filter? I mean- you ARE personally funding those cars too with your money...
