Because it is only available in about half the homes of ESPN2, or it is on a system that you have to pay extra like me. Sorry but I am not paying another 15 bucks for MAV TV

I don't get MAV TV, and my cable supplier says it aint in the works anytime soon, so I sure as heck hope they don't.

Does anybody else have the ability to do live streaming? That's a pretty nice feature I'd hate to give up.

understand the pay issue I hav direct tv but if NHRA pays ESPN and they don't give a crap about programming, why not pay Mav TV just a thought:eek:

Fox Sports 1, formally Speed Channel should be lookin' for money.
Then there is the Velocity Channel on Dish.
As many "networks" as there seem to be, surely you could get different ones to carry some programming.

Revive 'Diamond P" sports and we could have some R-E-A-L coverage.

How about a 1 hour live Pro finals showing short round by round clips of how each finalist got to the last round.
Leave out all the drama and remember it's a racing show.
A separate delayed Sportsman event later that day/week .
Did I mention go watch Diamond P broadcasts for programming notes?

As I remember, Harvey Palish was on the Board of Directors of the NHRA, Palish was also the TV and media representative and the negotiator for NHRA. Diamond P was lawyer Harvey Palish and Wally Parks, who owned a small piece of the company. John B. Mullin, who is still active in Sports TV Production, operated as the right hand of Diamond P Sports founder Palish.

Maybe what we need is less tv coverage, like in the Wide World of Sports days to remind all the whiners how good we actually have it now. You have live ESPN3 coverage of Q2 qualifying with some really good coverage, and live ESPN3 coverage of the entire race on Sunday. You tell me how Diamond P compares to that! Diamond P was good for it's time, but pales compared to what we have now!

I'd be in favor of them dropping the qualifying coverage shows on ESPN2, if they were willing to show all elimination rounds of Pro Stock Car and Motorcycle, on the Sunday show for all the races.

I don't think people are complaining about the actual coverage. ESPN does a very good job there. I think the issue is the constant jerking around of time slots. Occasionally a game will go into overtime and run long, that is the nature of sports, however it seems to happen more often then not here. Seems to be a product of bad programming time allotment by ESPN, not NHRA's fault.

However as NHRA is a paying customer, they should be fighting for better options. Of course, we do not know what is going on behind the scenes to remedy this.

The other issue is ESPN is in roughly 100 million homes. Is MAVTV even in 10 million? While not all of those ESPN people are watching NHRA, there is at least the potential. Sponsors will not like being relegated to the nowhere end of the TV dial. Having coverage on the ESPN family is a selling point that is used to sign sponsors.

Perhaps with NASCAR leaving, NHRA will get some love or at least a tiny bit of respect. Maybe the new Fox sports network would be an option. At this point MAVTV just is not large enough to meet the needs.

Just because something is better than it used to be, does not mean that growth and improvement should stop. If that were the case we'd all still be driving Model T's, since they were an improvement over the horse and buggy.
Greatness is never an attainable destination but a continuous journey we should all strive for.

so is NHRA in a tight spot?...if they leave espn and try something else and it doesn't work? then go back to espn and say,
'here's our money again, let's do the same thing'....and espn replies, 'sorry, soccer league is paying now and in your spot'
or would espn take them back no questions asked? especially with advent of FOX1 and FOX2?

what if nhra jumped to MAVTV or similar start-up sports channel that could provide adequate coverage?
(check out mavtv website - they are continually expanding their reach)(not sure about their monthly subscriber fee?)
what if said network would embrace nhra and make it their marquee sports product?
- live TV saturday nights, sunday afternoons or evenings, whatever the nhra schedule dictated?
- weather or oildowns? no problem, the network would make every reasonable effort to complete event....live or otherwise
- cross promotion with other smaller cable channels....nhra adds airing weekly on other sports and non-sports cable channels

espn has been a steady home for coca-cola since they came on board; hopefully nhra & coca-cola have had some discussion
where they would like to see the NHRA product moving into the future.

have also been wondering lately about streaming live video. IMO it's too early (3-5 years?) to abandon cable.
(cut-the-cord is the PC term i believe?).....cable is on the way out, streaming video will only expand exponentially
in the near future (it already is)......is a niche' sport like NHRA drag racing ripe for this application?
could NHRA stream the races (live if they choose) for a lot less than paying ESPN?.....i don't know but i would think so?

how many of us watch the youtube videos of nhra events the day after....KMAN posts all the qualifying thru elims.
I would think soon we may be tuning into youtube, or similar, for the actual race. Google owns youtube and is not
too far out with their 'google fiber' technology......tv is going to change bigtime and NHRA mite be the better for it.
