McDonalds is absolute sh*t but is the largest fast food burger joint around. How do you explain that? Also, the link above shows that Pizza Hut is actually bigger than Papa John's even though their pizza (Pizza Hut I mean) can best be described as "edible cardboard." Again, how do you explain that? It could be that most Americans' taste buds are similar to most teenager's taste in music: seriously malfunctioning.

If your opinion of the biggest burger and pizza joints is "absolute sh*t" and "edible cardboard", perhaps YOU are the one that needs to do some explaining...... Lmmfao!!!!

Some of you guys slay me. This sport has been and continues struggling to obtain and maintain corporate level sponsorship. There are plenty of products out there that I don't support that are involved in the sport. If there's indifference in the choice of products, I always try to use what's being promoted in the NHRA. However, if I truly feel there's a better product and/or value out there than what's being currently promoted in NHRA, I'll continue to use it, but there's certainly no reason to trash it.

I think I can explain ...... You say they are absolute Sh*T and yet they are the largest burger joint around !!!!! did u ever consider, that might be just your opinion and not the rest of the worlds ???

Yogi Berra .... "nobody goes there anymore, it's too crowded"

I guess we'll never run out of guys who could fall into a bucket of tits and come out sucking their thumb.

That's all fine, but don't say Papa Johns 'sucks'. They wouldn't be where they are in the market if that were true.

Outside of NY and Chicago maybe, I can't be responsible for the taste buds of the rest of the country.

The way you're getting all bent out of shape about what I said makes me think you own stock in them!

I lived in NY for the first 22 years of my life and I consider myself a "foodie," I know what good pizza, burgers etc are supposed to taste like. Why are those two chains the biggest even though they suck the most? Because it's fast and cheap. People like fast and they like cheap. Actual taste and quality of the food be damned.

Here's the deal, fast food will never taste as good to most people as smaller, specialized establishments. It really can't be expected to. It has a place. It's based on volume, so that's why it makes sense for a Papa Johns or a Dominoes to get involved in sports marketing, like racing. Wouldn't make sense for the little Italian place at the corner that makes crazy good pizza. So, if there's going to be big national or global chains selling fast food, let's be happy when they spend marketing dollars in an arena that we love. My cousin Vinny (yup, for real :D) owns a franchise of a small pizza chain here in upstate NY, but I'll throw a little biz at Papa Johns just to show some appreciation for supporting my sport. Don't tell Vinny though...

Very happy Papa Johns is in the sport. I also realize that as an American I don't have to slam every thing I don't prefer. I've found that as people gather years in life they either focus more on complaining, or focus more on their blessings. The American right to complain is something I don't prefer. Get Some!

YO, if cousin Vinny finds out......... "you will be sleepin with the fishes"

Got that right Ken! Hey, just saw the PJ commercial with Leah, pretty cool!

I was watching TV last night and saw the Papa John's commercial which featured Leah Pritchett. The ad prominently displayed Papa John's, Leah and the NHRA.

I can't recall the last time I saw an NHRA themed commercial on a non-sports related channel. (I believe I was watching either the Discovery Channel or the Science Channel...I forgot).
Oh, I give Papa John's A LOT of credit for their enthusiastic participation in NHRA drag racing!
For those of you who haven't seen it I found the commercial on youtube:
The sport has only a handful of major non-automotive sponsors and Papa John's has decided to go all in w/ their support.
Not only are they backing Leah's DSR dragster but their logo is on the Christmas tree, at the finish line during the telecast and they sponsor at least one feature at NHRA.com. They also offer discount coupons that are tied to Leah's team. I have to give this combination a lot of credit for moving the sport forward. We have a handful of other non-auto sponsorships but I see little to no cross promotional support. I have seen no Monster, Patron, Great Clips or DHL drag racing-themed commercials on TV, not even during the FOX telecast of NHRA events. Papa John's arrival to drag racing has been a blessing to the sport!

We had an old saying in the illustration/graphics arts biz but I'm sure it's practiced in many others, especially for home remodeling and car construction: "Good, Fast or Cheap....you can have any 2 but not all 3." Hence, if you wanted it Good and Fast, it wasn't going to be Cheap. If you wanted it Good and Cheap you weren't getting it Fast. And if you wanted it Fast and Cheap it wasn't going to be very Good! :D

I've always heard it as "cheap, fast, and good - pick any two" Applies to the software industry, that's for sure.

Papa Johns, extremeley RICH dude who is into cars and racing, spending what amounts to chump change, to sponsor a dragster, actually advertise his business on a dragster.
Another mega rich guy playing with cars,

You worded that like someone just gave him a 55 gallon drum full of gold and he should be ashamed of being successful.
The guy took a chance , worked hard and it paid off.

Ken, if he was just another rich dude who likes cars, he could just as easily buy a few exotics to satisfy the urge. He's actually using drag racing as a platform to market his company, and the promos, commercials, and grudge races between him and Leah are all really great. And, even though he's wealthy, considering where he came from, I'll bet he doesn't consider it "chump change". People who have earned it don't usually lose sight of the value of money. Kind of hard not to dig this story, IMO.

If that is all it is then why does that race team do so many promotional events and meet and greets all over the United States. Papa John, Leah, and her crew even had the car at the Dallas Cowboys game last year signing autographs and spreading the word about NHRA drag racing. I think they are a little more legit then you are giving them credit for. Here is a link to an interesting video of Leah talking about how the Papa Johns sponsorship came about. My hats off to Papa John, Leah, and her crew for the extreme amount of time and hard work they put into this sponsorship and NHRA drag racing.

Disappointed would be a much better way to describe what I am rather than bent out of shape. I have a deep appreciation for those that choose to invest in the sport I enjoy to participate in at the local level as well as follow on the professional level. As I stated before, there are many products and services that have been, and still are promoted in the NHRA that I choose not to purchase for a wide variety of reasons. But no reason I would choose not to use any given product necessitates me to publicly berate the product, because there's simply enough options for just about everything you can buy.

Like it or not, our sport isn't mainstream enough to make partnering with these companies easy. All it takes is a key person to hear something like what you said at the wrong time to start a chain of unfavorable events.

it is great to see this tf team and pizza business cross promoting each other......papa johns is 'that' company we've all wished
could use nhra drag racing as a marketing platform. i hope the results are great, and i hope other businesses will see the
value the nhra and it's pro teams offer......i've seen the commercial in question here many times, on many different non-sports
networks. great work by all those involved.
