Major JFR announcement at PRI show Friday, December 12th.

the Camaro bodies will be made from space age material that evaporates just before the finish line (like a P/S dumping the laundry) for weight savings. Also, as a added safety bonus, if there is a catastrophic explosion near the grandstands, the particles will fall gently on the people and will be edible like cotton candy for a treat during oildown cleanups.........

I have no doubts CFD does most of the heavy lifting, but there still needs to be proof of concept testing and final aero tweaks. It is easier to do this in a wind tunnel than on a track 4 seconds at a time (also a reason all F1 teams still have wind tunnels that run almost non-stop despite having some of the most advanced CFD simulations in the World).

CFD is still prohibitively expensive from a computing hardware and software standpoint, it is one of the reasons it is good to have a manufacturer involved, they can do most of that for you, without you having to make that investment yourself for so few bodies produced.

The manufacturer's involvement is where I think CFD would come into play. Yes, CFD simulation is expensive. You need a HPC cluster (high performance computing for those who don't know what HPC means) to get meaningful results in a timely fashion. And those are expensive. One job I worked at paid a co0l 500K for a 512 core cluster (64 8 core blades connected via a 40 GB/s interconnect). And the simulation software isn't cheap, either. But when you can design, simulate, redesign, simulate, etc... before even building a physical prototype and testing it in a wind tunnel, you can see the benefits.

The point I was making-I'm betting the big announcement probably came very soon after the big check. And before anyone-be it JFR or Chevy starts on spending a shit-ton of money for the 1st body, the ink would have to be dry and/or the check would have to clear.

Hey a T sighting!!! You should post more often, you always had something interesting to say!
Jesse, one of the people I was talking about posted under his real name today. It's pretty obvious who he is and I have met him in person. The low life who said something vulgar about my mother is another.
I'm not sure who you think I am, but I've been a member here since day 1. I've met Jerrod in person, spent a few days in Shoe's hospitality, met Force and toured his pit when I was a guest in the winston suite at the us nationals. I'm just a fan who has had alot of access and been to almost every race. I'm not sure if that is enough to qualify me as having "mater cred" as kelly says. And as far as Randy calling me out, I've driven super comp, TA/D, TA/FC at hawley's school. Mike Petosa ,Billy Harper and another fellow mater were there when I was.
Anyway, anyone know where pat and franklin from the old days are? Those guys were master trolls back when this place was fun.
Greg I'll have you know I have never posted on mater with any name but my own. It would be interesting to know when you met me in person and where.

John said today that they would use their current supply and make the adapt the NHRA specs while making them look like a Camaro. The work has been done and the modified bodies will be on the car when they go testing in Phoenix. The first true new Camaro body will be the 2016 Camaro.

I think the real ongoing expense of CFD (hardware and software is usually a one shot deal, unless software is set up for annual licensing) is the costs associated with hiring an engineer that knows how to use the software and analyze the results. That is also probably best left to the manufacturer, as they have dedicated staff for these types of things.

Jesse I read what I wrote, and I never said or implied I've met you or know you. Sorry if I gave you the wrong impression. Now that everyone has had their say , can we move on from this subject? Force lovers think he walks on water, I don't. I doubt force gives a crap what someone says on the internet , otherwise he would be here to defend himself. Sorry to everyone offended by my opinion. Maybe next time Mark shouldn't ask the question if he didn't want an honest answer. Let's move on please.

Not real high on Tom Compton being there. Unless his track record is to be at all sponsor announcements. Of course, I know there aren't many with all the confetti. If PEAK were breaking into the NHRA for the first time I could see it. But ...... whatever. It's not that big of a deal on the grand scale.

He shows up to try and steal the sponsors from the teams for the NHRA.
