Major JFR announcement at PRI show Friday, December 12th.

let's hear it, after all this is a discussion board. My posts that you think are trolling are my responses to personal attacks because the mods didn't say anything. This place used to be great back in the day with J-rod, joker, t. smith and others being able to speak freely. Since the name change thing was implemented, this place is a boring ghost town... nothing wrong with a lively discussion. And yes, my 1st post was a bit over the top. So what, it got people talking. I don't take what people say on messages boards seriously like some of the people here.
Hey I'm still kickin', just older and wiser.

Hey a T sighting!!! You should post more often, you always had something interesting to say!
Jesse, one of the people I was talking about posted under his real name today. It's pretty obvious who he is and I have met him in person. The low life who said something vulgar about my mother is another.
I'm not sure who you think I am, but I've been a member here since day 1. I've met Jerrod in person, spent a few days in Shoe's hospitality, met Force and toured his pit when I was a guest in the winston suite at the us nationals. I'm just a fan who has had alot of access and been to almost every race. I'm not sure if that is enough to qualify me as having "mater cred" as kelly says. And as far as Randy calling me out, I've driven super comp, TA/D, TA/FC at hawley's school. Mike Petosa ,Billy Harper and another fellow mater were there when I was.
Anyway, anyone know where pat and franklin from the old days are? Those guys were master trolls back when this place was fun.

But as an Al Hoffman, Etchells and Bazemore fan, I'm honor bound to dislike john force :)

Whatever happened to Joker (Kevin Brown)? I used to hang with him here in Vegas when he ran A/Fuel ... his mom's potato salad was AWESOME.

Gary, judging by your total lack of class, you're not "honor bound" to due anything. You have no honor!

While I'm happy to see a new manufacturer come into the sport, that is just a mustang with new Chevy stickers. Ill be curious to see if the partnership goes any further than just running Camaros and slapping sticker on.

JFR really need to update their graphics package as well, the giant X on the side was out dated years ago. Just looks cluttered and confused to me.

But hey, any new sponsor has to be good in this day and age.

I read that Force himself said in the conference that they are "adapting" the mustang bodies they already have to morph into Camaros. So yeah, pretty much from the horses mouth there buddy.

Greg
Yep, bashing an artists rendering....intelligent, huh!

Yeah, uhm, that really doesn't make any sense.

And, will they (JFR) be able to get enough Camaro bodies to test or even go to Pomona with?

We all know floppers don't look like the ones on the dealership floor, but lets wait till we see an actual body before ripping into this. That is just common sense.

That doesn't mean it will look like that rendering, now does it?

Also, I would bet that is just a temporary fix until new bodies are made and approved.

The way I know it, Most modifications to existing bodies are done with new stickers. Anyone remember the "Chevy Lumina" in 94 that force won the championship in, that looked a hellva lot like the Olds from the year before with new stickers and a flame job. So I would expect the first iteration of the Camaro Fuel Body to look exactly like the rendering. A Mustang in Chevy clothing, if you will.

I would also think if it "just" a sponsorship deal then JFR would want to exhaust their current supply of bodies, which I hear is upwards of 40 bodies in various states of repair. Stickers are cheap compared to carbon fibre ....

I don't even know if a Camaro body has been approved for FC. Does anyone else?
And if it hasn't that justifies what they are doing even more. A little nip here, a tuck here, and a decal there.

When was the last time anyone walked in to a dealership with a picture of a FC from the previous week and said "I want one of these", and the salesman knew exactly what they were looking at?

How long does it take to:
Design a body
Get the design approved by Chevy--and NHRA
Build a prototype for small scale wind tunnel test
Build a mold
Cast your first body
Wind tunnel full size
Make changes+ re-wind tunnel
Get final approval from NHRA
Build all tin + supports
Test
Wrap ?

Come on John-its been 6 hours since the official announcement-no wonder people are pissed!

I imagine they don't wind tunnel it anymore. They probably use CFD simulation. Much quicker. Don't know about the financial aspect, but I suspect it's cheaper in the long run.

Last summer, 5 Star Bodies out of Wisconsin did wind tunnel testing on the Camaro for TAFC use. I am sure they have data that would be applicable, as well as mockups to simulate a fuel FC pass. So some of the R&D is done. But they still have to be manufactured for use.

Actually, I found this spy photo of the new Camaro body undergoing some strength testing recently. Should be ready to go soon, just need that vinyl wrap.

you're entitled to your opinion even if it's wrong :) did i say something that hurt your feelings? I'm sure force will appreciate all the white knights coming to his defense.

I have no doubts CFD does most of the heavy lifting, but there still needs to be proof of concept testing and final aero tweaks. It is easier to do this in a wind tunnel than on a track 4 seconds at a time (also a reason all F1 teams still have wind tunnels that run almost non-stop despite having some of the most advanced CFD simulations in the World).

CFD is still prohibitively expensive from a computing hardware and software standpoint, it is one of the reasons it is good to have a manufacturer involved, they can do most of that for you, without you having to make that investment yourself for so few bodies produced.
