Locating an old dragstrip (1 Viewer)

Excellent. Many thanks for that. So the track in question is Roanoke Drag Strip, the pics were taken in the very beginning of the 1960's. The original gallery is at http://www.vaautoracing.org/Gallery2.html and if you page through it you'll find some real stunning pictures of a good time back when. Interesting enough, Richard Petty has his Barracuda in place in one of the pictures.

What is left of the track can be seen on Google Maps at Google Maps Zoom in, Turkey Hollow Road was the location of the strip. It's just 400 yards off of Blue Ridge Parkway so I've been past it a few times without knowing it, I think it's actually Blue Ridge Parkway in the background of one or two pictures in the gallery.

For vintage roundy-round racing fans, just replace a number in the above link and you'll find tons of gems at http://www.vaautoracing.org/Gallery1.html Some tracks can still be seen today, like Virginia track Floyd Speedway that can still be seen on Google Maps at Google Maps

Internet sure is grand, thanks again for the help.

thanks for sharing . . . ;)

I like the pic with the completely homebuilt "rail", 2 foot steering wheel, hemi, and possibly a potvin supercharger upfront.

Thanks for sharing this link--this site never ceases to amaze me with all the cool old stuff that shows up. Thanks so much for sharing:)
