When Justin Schriefer had the F/C blow up on the starting line, he received a concussion & didn't know it. Drag Racing On Line reports that Schriefer drove the transporter home before realizing something was not right. Went to a hospital & was told he had a concussion & needs to rest up a few weeks. Arghhhh

It can be either. Justin's looked like a hydraulic to me which is a much more violent explosion than just backfiring the supercharger. Valve train failure could also be a possibility and those like a roulette wheel in that sometimes you junk everything hat to pan, sometimes you get lucky.

It makes you wonder how many concussions have gone un-reported from similar explosions...

Probably a lot. Any time you stuff something into the wall, you stand the risk of getting injured. Look at what happens to people doing 65 MPH on the freeways. I'd rather crash a drag car at 200 than get into a freeway crash. Same thing with blowing up the engine, the blower, etc. I used to hear stories in The Old Daze about "woofing the blower" as the car leaves the line, and the drivers would compare it to a hand grenade going off in front of you. No wonder Schriefer got a concussion. Arghhh
