Re: PRO Supports 1,000ft in 2009

Well if that is the case, they just saved me a bunch of money

Re: PRO Supports 1,000ft in 2009

1000' just makes sence to all involved. Well, except for the fans I guess...

If you could win the Daytona 500 in 379 miles, wouldn't you do it? Save gas, Save on parts wear, It's 25% safer, It requires less work on the driver and crew's part, you get paid the same money - from a participant's point of view of course it makes sence.

Unfortunately, the perspective of the guy in the stands is completely different.

For Immediate Release:

NHRA will begin 2009 Full Throttle drag racing season with Top Fuel and Funny Car remaining at 1000-ft. All other professional and sportsman classes will remain at 1320-ft.

NHRA WILL BEGIN 2009 NHRA FULL THROTTLE DRAG RACING SEASON WITH TOP FUEL AND FUNNY CAR REMAINING AT 1,000 FEET

GLENDORA, Calif. (Nov. 14, 2008) – NHRA announced today that the 2009 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Season will begin with the Top Fuel and Funny Car categories racing to 1,000 feet. All other professional and sportsman classes will remain at 1,320 feet.

Over the next several months, NHRA will test various engine combinations following up on the analysis it has conducted to reduce power in the two nitromethane categories.

Upon the conclusion of the engine combination testing program, NHRA will evaluate rule changes and determine whether to return to 1,320 feet or stay at 1,000 feet in the Top Fuel and Funny Car categories. There is no timetable, but a change could possibly be made at any time, including during the 2009 season.

Headquartered in Glendora, Calif., the NHRA is the primary sanctioning body for the sport of drag racing in the United States. It presents 24 events through its NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series. The NHRA has 80,000 members and 140 member tracks. The NHRA-sanctioned sportsman and bracket racing series provide competition opportunities for drivers of all levels. The NHRA develops the stars of tomorrow by offering the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, NHRA Summit Racing Equipment Series and the NHRA Street Legal Drags presented by AAA. The NHRA also offers the O’Reilly Auto Parts Jr. Drag Racing League for youth ages 8 to 17.

Geez..the release says they'll be trying different things testing the next few months..then see if they can get back to 1320.

I don't have a good feeling about all that. Suppose any changes will be cheap?

Dave,

I hope people pay attention to this part of the announcement. I hope the Fuel categories will go back to 1320 feet with engines that stay together and are easier on parts-easier on parts means lower costs for racing, just as 1,000 foot racing is easier on parts and therefore also means lower cost racing.

Would you rather see your racing heroes die?

here we go again!!! so in your mind you think scott would be with us today if the racing was 1,000 ft? these cars are still going over 300 mph! a driver can loose thier life at speeds well under 300 so there goes your theroy, enough with everybody lives at 1,000 ft. i cant say yes or no but you are saying yes. . well at least i still have good ole pro stock to watxh, top fuel and funny car will mean as much to me as pro stock bike

hey andy that means having to wait 8-12 secs. watching a run. That,s an eternity.

I've got a feeling that the determining factor will be what kind of pinch they are feeling at the gate. If people continue to show up, 1K will probably be here to stay. If there are more empty seats and NHRA membership is down then there will be a better chance of returning to 1320.
