"It's just a fuel altered. They do that." Fuel Altered Photo Album (1 Viewer)

Wow, Mark.... My dad passed in 1981. So long ago now that sometimes I can't remember what he looked like. Have photos of him. He was only 65. He took me to San Fernando in 1961 for my first race. Once he came out to see me race my old 58 Ford & I was glad he was there. It's hard to lose your parents.

No google. I use DuckDuckGo & Dogpile (among others) that do not track you. Also getting tired of You Tube cuz of excessive commercials. I like to watch videos. A 7 minute video was interrupted 4 times w/ commercials. During the elections, I almost quit watching. Now they are starting up again w/ Christmas commercials. OK, I have a large collection of DVD's, so bye U Tube. arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
I don’t know for the phone but for my computer I use uBlock Origin and Adblock Plus and all my YouTube videos play right through with no ads. The Ublock had a button that allows you to block individual ads or pop ups on the screen by highlighting them and clicking block item. Gets rid of those screen hogging pop ups as a YT video is finishing .

To quote Charlie Brown, "Good Grief!" An Isetta doing a wheelie..... That 2nd photo make me think of Back To The Future. Do you know why he built it as the Hoop car? Must be an interesting story behind that one...... :)

The HOOP is/was his artist name... the guy I knew was just a nice, forklift operator and car guy from Joisey that went to car shows with his creations. I really had no idea about his life as an artist until later.

And as for stories, just go here https://www.autoblog.com/2011/09/16/hoop-car-artist/

The Tramp. Seattle July 29, 2016 Goodguys race AA/FA-AA/FC-Pro Mods ect.
I was there and it was hot, low 90s on that Friday. Great one day event.

Jim,

FYI, "The Tramp" was retired from AA/FA racing after this year's March Meet, but it was announced just today the car will remain running as an injected SBC for the Hall Bros. in the NE2 class with the Nor Cal Nostalgia Series and ANRA (when the schedules don't conflict). Bryan and the family will focus more on "The Nomad" AA/FD and a new AA/FC tribute car of "Pete's lil' Demon." But I wouldn't be surprised to see them with those two cars and the "Good News" AA/FA at next year's March Meet in the same pits.

That shot of Tom Trisch at Dallas was a nice one.

Cliff, my dad passed in 1979, seems so flippin' long ago but is ain't when looking at the Awfull-Awfulls from the 60's.

Well, he was different. heh Takes a creative mind to come up with all that stuff.

The Stone T without a blower. Never knew it ran like that. Always saw it with the blower motor, usually not going real straight. Show me a "real' AA/FA that ever went right down the groove..... heh Even the Transformers get outta shape once in awhile.
AFAR = A Fuel Altered Roadster. AA/FR = AA Fuel Roadster. Way back in the Daze, altereds had their own class, & roadsters had theirs. AA to the 6cyl / flatheads; all had their class. Then NHRA finally combined the altereds & roadsters into "Altered" and that was that. Wanna get into a big arguement with "purists"? Which is the REAL AA/FA? Roadster or Bodied..... :)

Quick story about Willie. One day I was down at Howards when I was driving the "Special" and Willie was there. Most people don't know that he and Madden (Don Madden) who was the front end manager of Howards were partners in a repair garage in L.A. earlier. Anyway Willie was a funny guy but you couldn't really tell most of the time. Some customer was there and when he figured out who Willie was he says "How can you even drive that thing - much less one handed, it doesn't go straight at all". Willie just looked at him straight faced and calmly says "Thats why it has a Steering Wheel" and walked into the back.

The last photo... Is the red car Oties, who won at Indy one year? If so, I had a model of that car when I was a kid. Man, those tires look so narrow, but back then, they were big.

Thank you Bob. Walt's Puffer II. Now I remember, he won Middle Elim, I think, at Indy. Had 2 cars, the altered & a roadster & they both reached the final, so he singled in the Altered. Both had blown Chryslers on gas. I had the model of the altered. I really liked the altered cuz it had a chopped top & front fender wells were covered; gave it a special look. Seem to remember there were 2 cars in the kit, maybe the other was a dragster. Try & find that kit today, the original, & ya better have a fat wallet. Heh
