Mark, I agree that JF is a great spokeman for drag racing, great with the fans etc..., but also agree with George. My reasoning has nothing to do with him personally, but the influence he has on the NHRA decision makers. IMO JFR has been the number 1 factor in the outrageous costs of nitro racing. Starting way back with the setback blower JFR has implemented (with NHRA's immediate approval) changes that have driven owners out of the sport. IMO JFR is at the front line of resistance to tone the cars down, and return them to the traditional quarter mile distance. I understand that they don't want to trash years of data, but if the cars were scaled back and not needing to gobble up multiple parts each and every pass maybe the direction of the sport could head back in the right direction. The Forces, DSR's, AJ's of the world will still be the teams to beat, but maybe more teams could come into the sport if it was feasable to be competitive. There are over 100 Nostalgia Nitro cars running in the US, and if NHRA would scale back the rules I would bet that quite a few would step right up and build a "Big Show" car. Say what you want, but folks (racers AND fans) are not showing up for whatever reason (1000', economy, bored or a combo), and NHRA needs to grow a pair, not be influenced by a few, and bring back this once great sport.
