Hope the Weather report I saw is wrong....

Saturday is now looking like the best out of the lot. That said I think they have forecast rain every day I have been here so far and apart from a shower yesterday afternoon in the city I haven't seen a whole lot. Just because there will be rain at some point during the day doesn't mean a complete washout. That said I like to think positively in these situations haha!

never plan your life around a weather forecast, they are wrong 90% of the time! If they say 50% chance of rain Saturday that means there is a 100% chance it will rain in your "area" Just how big is "your area"? I'll be there Sat and if there is any down time I will be in my car drinking a few cold Miller High Life's and not having to pay $7 a beer inside!

I can honestly say I have never heard the words "Getaway to Duluth" used in a rational sentence. This was the first thing I thought of:

In Duluth, its either incredibly beautiful, or UN-bearable. There's no middle ground.

Does this bus go to Duluth? No, it goes "Beep Beep".

Look at the bright side, how amazing would it be if all the pro classes only had 1 session to get into the race! While it would give the crew chiefs heart attacks it would be a must watch session!

All that would happen would be NHRA would drag out the policy manual, change the rules to get who they wanted in the race.

You're right JM. It happened several years ago. NHRA basicly thru qualifying out the window. They automaticly put in the top 10, afetr that
I can't recall how they filled the other 6 spots.

Hey gang....been a long time since I was last on here but being that I live here in the Indianapolis Metro Area and the fact that I'm also a long time weather hobbyist I thought I'd share with those here who plan to attend the race this weekend, my unofficial forecast based on a combination of public information and a fairly good understanding of reading models and trends.

That being said, the chances of rain/storms exist each day with Saturday and Monday being the two days most in danger of wiping out sessions. Friday night there will be scattered storms firing late in the afternoon/early evening and it'll be the luck of the draw as to whether or not rain falls at the track. I'd give it at 40% chance of precip.

Saturday gets worse as the day goes on and we may be lucky to get one session in. The later in the day the higher chances of precip there are as a shortwave moves along a nearly stalled out boundary. I'd say Saturday starts with a 40% chance and goes up to 70% by afternoon/evening. Rain will be much more widespread on Saturday too, especially as the day progresses.

Sunday may be a late start due to track drying but the shortwave from Saturday looks as if it will push the front South to the Ohio River overnight leaving Sunday with the best chance of a prolonged dry period.

Monday there is an increasing potential for some strong to severe weather as a weak cold front approaches from the West. Timing will be everything this day and as of right now I'd give it a 50/50 chance that we complete eliminations on Monday let alone start them.

Let's hope for the best!

EDIT: Should also note that the PWAT (Precipitable Water in the atmosphere) values are very high here (up to 2+ inches) over the next few days. With values that high, rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches (or higher) per hour from storms would not be a surprise.

With that much water in the atmosphere it will be tough sledding to run big numbers, especially in Pro Stock.

Ironic considering weather.com has Saturday at only 20% chance of rain and probably the nicest looking day of the bunch. But you know how quickly that can change in central Indiana. I'll still be in the stands hoping for the best. :D

We are just finishing our first 30+ minute rain delay in the middle of Super Stock Class Eliminations..

No doubt with a worsening forecast by the minute there are going to be more delays and the schedule is going into full shuffle mode.

Yup ... already bounced SC round 2 out to tomorrow and Comp Q3 cancelled. Comp field is set after 2 sessions (Round 1 tomorrow). Exactly 64 cars there for 64 car field. I would say SG round 1 is the next sacrificial lamb.

Should have been finishing R2 of SS class by now (R1 still in progress) getting rady for Alky at 1pm. Obviously that is doubtful. Priority now will likely be to finish SS Class (if possible), then Alky (maybe 2 sessions) and the Pro session. Of course they still have to get the track back from Ma Nature.

Good thing the % of rain today was low ... geez

I'd guess one of the alky sessions gets bumped too. I was surprised to read on DRC they had multiple oil down delays during SS. Aren't those required to have diapers on them too? Plus, how often does a SS oil the track. Just a strange day at Indy.

Just saw this on DRC:

BROWNSBURG, Ind. - 12:48 p.m. More schedule changes were just announced.
The Top Alcohol qualifying round scheduled for 1 p.m. today has been cancelled - they will only get three rounds of qualifying: Round 1 today at 4 p.m., Round 2 Saturday, Round 3 Sunday.

The Brainerd TAD semifinal and final will run during qualifying rounds 2 and 3.
