Four-Wide It still stinks

Yes Houston, some call the 4-WIDE a circus, but if you ask me this "live TV" thing has fiasco written all over it. Don't get me wrong, I hope it does work, but there are so many things that can go wrong. And for what gain?? Just to see it live instead of a couple hr. delay.

I'll take 4-wide over a live broadcast any time.

So....let's see

I can understand Mopar fans that won't watch NASCAR anymore,

I have friends who will watch any baseball/football game even if it isn't their favorite teams playing, as long as there's beer and it gets them out of weekend chores

people PAY to see vintage fuelers sit on the tarmac and "cackle" but not move,

but if there is a chance to watch between 1 and four 300mph fuelers running all out one Sunday a year on TV, someone won't tune in because they are all on the same track at once???

not to mention that your favorite drivers all show up and participate

What happened to true nitro junkies?

Who would miss a chance to see The Greek possibly win at age eighty-something?

Or see how they might sort out a four-redlight start? :D

My favorite is that because Robert Hight (#16 in Funny Car) advanced, and Eddie Krawiec (#16 in PS Motorcycle) advanced there is something wrong with it.

After all how could two lowly # 16 qualifiers ever be expected to get out of round 1?

Especially those two, REALLY?????

Alan

Agree completely. Fingers crossed...

I'm not a fan of the 4-wide and I basically had to force myself to watch the coverage. I paid more attention to my computer than I did the TV.

Cut a light and out run the other guy.....

Actually I think he was referring to a typical round 1 match up being 1 v 16. In this case, both 1 AND 16 made it to round 2.

They could try 2 F/C in lanes 1 and 3. 2 T/F in lanes 2 and 4. P/S even lanes, P/Mods in odd lanes.

I don't have the round by round data but it appears the race format changed the outcomes (who went to the next round) and by doing so possibiy affected who eventually won. If for example #1 and #16 both went to the next round and someone who would have in a normal weekend didn't. That's just wrong.

AMEN !!! Nothing but a cluster fork......!!
A sideshow at best.....

A desperate NHRA reaching down low in the stupid pet tricks bag in order to drum up some much needed attention.
Four wide is a joke, and disrespects the sport IMO.
The only thing missing is the clown act from the old Joey Chitwood show.

Maybe Nascar should start a figure 8 race.
At least, people would be interested in that!

I loved being a participant and seeing the 4 wide in person. For personal reasons I didn't go this year, but I found myself watching the complete show yesterday. One of the very, very few events I watch because the regular event shows are so predictable and have gotten boring.

I looked at the results on DRC and they listed them like this:

Order Car# Lane Driver Car Qual RT ET Speed
1. 2814 2 Matt Hagan, '13 Charger 6 0.052 4.071 315.34
2. 256 4 Blake Alexander, '10 Charger 10 0.104 4.156 294.56
3. 8 1 Tim Wilkerson, '13 Mustang 4 0.097 5.141 153.39
4. 3111 3 Chad Head, '13 Camry 1 0.114 10.525 67.05

I think that is about as simple as results can be reported.

We find fault because the runner up car cut .1 lights all day? In the final his reaction time was consistent with 2 of the other 3 cars. If his lights were so bad, it should have given all the cars that he ran against an advantage and make him easy to beat, but they didn't. I think it is interesting that the 1 and 4 cars were out ran by the number 10 and 6 qualified cars.

And all it took for the 8 and 9 qualifiers to beat the 1 and 16 guys was to out run them, but again they didn't so they didn't deserve to advance.

Watching teams pick lanes, I don't think lane 4 was an undesirable lane.

I don't know what the attendance was, but rain fell just about everywhere in the Carolinas Friday, and there was a tremendous amount of car related events in the area Saturday and Sunday.

There is a NASCAR affiliated short track near my shop, and their biggest spectator draw every year is a crash and burn show, no racing involved. I have also seen many commercials on TV for the Atlanta event coming in 2 weeks and they seem to feature nitro cars blowing up. So if that is the profile of the spectators, .................

IMO, the 4 wide nationals are great, and I wish other events during the season had some type of variety in them to spice up the series.

That should give you guys some more to complain about.

I think its kinda cool, adds a couple of unique elements and overall a great addition to the tour. I look at it like the taxi cabs on the road course, something different from the norm in small doses. It also allows a good A to B tune up to be effective, case in point Paul Smith.
