I was asked if Chrysler had went under, what would I buy...I said I'd buy a Ford (we were talking trucks) as I just think Ford has the better vehicle over GM.

I will also say that I've never owned a Ford and have had 2 GM cars(each wife brought one with each marriage),all of my rides have been Mopars.I will also say that I've had no problems with any of the Chrysler products we've had over the years.I've owned several Dodge trucks, and my wife has been driving Jeeps since we got rid of her Trans Am,and the race car will always be Mopar.

I remember the price for a 1970 Challenger hemi engine option was almost 1/2the cost of the car. So, in todays dollars to add an LS7 engine to a $20,000 Camaro would add $10,000 to the cost of the car.

I don't know how old you are, but these cars in the late 60's and early 70's were $3,500 to almost $5,000 new. I had a pretty decent job working at a gas station and an auto parts store while I was going to school. I made between $1.50 to $3.00 per hour which wasn't bad money for someone in high school then. Unless gramdma left me some money or I flipped some real estate I wasn't going to be able to afford one, and only one other person who had help from daddy that I knew of was able to buy a 1970 383 Challenger. My first car was $750.

Randy,
What I did was walk the back trade in lot at Garden Grove Chrysler-Plymouth and 'Found' a 65 Belvedere with a 'tweaked' Big block, 4 spd, that the dealer took as a trade on a new 'hemi 'Cuda" for $300... The thing was a Q-boat. Believe that was the fall of '71. Drove it for a year and a half, and sold her to one of the guys at the gas station I worked at just before I shipped overseas right after the '73 PDA Meet, for5 $500.00. Sleep in her at the '73 March Meet, the weekend before I went into Boot Camp. ;)
