first time to both strips... any suggestions? (where to sit ,is there a shuttle bus, )not really concerned about anything but getting my nitro fix, also i am taking 2 people that have never been to a race of any kind

You'll get lots of advice/help/opinions. :) My $0.02:

The Platinum seating is pricey but worth every dime as it has shade which can be a precious commodity at the Vegas track. But any seat on the pit side of is a good one. This is easily my favorite facility on the circuit, it's clean, efficient, well managed, and comfortable. They know how to get 30,000 people in and out remarkably well.

As for getting there, there are city buses that make the trip in and out, but I've heard from a number of people that it is a hassle and doesn't work very well (hard to get there, confusing to get out, etc.). I always rent a car, it's a city with a bazillion rentals and prices are good. The most direct route is just to take I-15 north out of town until you get there, but it's always torn up so traffic can be terrible. I usually find my way to N. Las Vegas Blvd. and come in the back door. Don't try to do the taxi thing - you'll get there just fine, but getting a taxi back will be a nightmare.

As I said, this is my favorite track, Bruton Smith knows how to run a race track, at least from a fan's perspective. Paved pits, lots of food choices, easy and free parking, smooth traffic in/out, etc. You'll love it, and it's a great choice for newbies.

Hope this helps,
Chris

I would suggest taking in the Fremont experience, totally different from the main strip and the show and atmosphere are awesome.I'm not sure where it leaves from now, when i was there in '05 the shuttle to the track left from the Fremont street station. You're gonna love the track it truly is a class act.

Maybe it's just ME, but both this strip and the Infineon facility in Sonoma, CA seem to have the bleachers (stands) built a L-O-N-G way back from the drag strip surface.

I have, since attending races at Infineon, had cataract surgery, so I can't be sure that my own perceptions about that are accurate because I can see a lot better now, but my recommendation would be to definitely pack a good, powerful, set of binoculars if you plan to sit in the stands at either of those two facilities.

I was totally spoiled in that regard, by the track called "Green Valley Raceway" in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, back in the early-'60s.

It had the stands built really close to the track, with only a narrow "fire-up-lane" separating the stands from the strip. The cars had no starters on them back then, and had to be push-started. They would come from the Fuel pits down on the big end, and be pushed up toward the starting at about 30 mph (or, more) on this fire-up-road, with the clutch engaged, but the mag kill switch in the "off" position. When they got about 300 feet from the starting line, they'd turn on the mag and wowser... a Fuel motor coming to life, just a few feet from your seat in the stands!!! The races were really close to the stands, and it really made you feel a lot more like you were part of the race, than watching it from 100+ feet away.

That was then; this is now, but it seems to me that Bruton and Company has overdone the "move the stands back away from the strip" bidness...

I know that insurance companies are at the bottom of this; still, I think it's been over-done. Maybe if I'm the target of part of a connecting rod falling from the sky one of these days, I'll change my mind... LOL!

Most definitely rent a car.
There are no bad seats in the big main grandstand.
You will love LVMS. Gauranteed.

>>>"The Stands are much closer at LVMS than Sonoma separated only by the return road."<<<

That's good to hear. I haven't been there as a spectator, but have looked at it from outside the facility and the pictures in Dragster and on TV looked like it was another track where the stands were set too far back.

I'm glad to learn that that's not the case! Thanks for the info!

You can stand on the fence on the Pit side, you just can't enter the grandstand without a reserved ticket.

Go to LVMS.com or call 800-644-4444 and get your GA tickets NOW, as they are on sale for ONLY $19 per day for the next 2 weeks. After that, tickets go back to regular price. When you get to the track, you can upgrade to reserved tickets for $10. The spring race rarely sells out.

DO IT NOW.

LVMS won"t let you stand on the fence, but leaning on the fence at the starting line (GA side) is as close as you will probably want to get.

Well if i could "stand" on any fence i would be a gymnast. I am not. but i will stick my face in some nitro headers, because that is probably as close as i can get

It might have been mentioned, but you can stand at the fence in the 'pit' on the reserved side. I like it! The first year (2007) I never sat in the stands at all.
