it's time ga grows up. i doubt she was taunting him. he just didn't want to be the"guy". maybe he should talk to ricky smith. i think he was the first male to lose a round to her.if i'm not mistaken it was on a holeshot. i like rivalry's but damn greg growup. let your car do the talking, it's that good.

I'm neither Greg, nor Erica, but I like both, and will continue to like both....I would still like to see Greg in the booth as he's good at sharing what's going on....I do however think it's much ado about nothing. It's almost as if someone fired him up about the photo previous to the round.

Holding your gold medal up and feeling pride for even a moment when second and third place are standing on steps lower than you isn't ever considered unprofessional....

Actually what she said was that her sponsor asked her to take the picture. From what I read a month ago, her sponsor's son took the picture.

I was wrong about Greg when I posted in that previous thread, I thought for sure he would have found the humor in that photo. Yesterday was a disgrace on his part. He should have handled it with a phone call, with a face to face at Norwalk, but definitely not on national TV 5 weeks afterwards.

She's definitely gotten the best of him. If I were her, I'd print 10,000 hero cards with that picture on them and send him to the moon.

It doesn't really matter what the problem was, who was at fault, or his reasoning for being upset. When you have the gall to call someone out on national tv like that, you better have the man stones and character to give the reason why, and not pull the immature "i don't want to say" move.
He used "unprofessional four times.. What erica did may have been unprofessional in "his" opinion, but anderson is the one who handled it unprofessionally, and for his sponsors and the entire world to see.
I guess some of us were just raised differently.

Big props to erica to have the guts to ask "why" with the cameras rolling..
I've always admired greg anderson, i think he has been the best for a long time now. Sadly, he needs to learn a life lesson from young erica, and never repeat that gutless, character-less ploy again...

I wonder what GA thinks of how he handled it now that he's had a night to sleep on it, especially since now the whole world now knows one of his buttons.

That being said, haven't lost any respect for him, it was said in the heat of battle, where emotions tend to disengage the brain. Hopefully cooler heads will prevail in the end.

Did anybody catch in the conversation where EE said her sponsor wanted the picture taken? Sponsor says "I want a pic", you do what they say.. they're footing the bill.

Or how about "you waited until now to bring this up?"

While I respect Anderson's accomplishments and abilities, his actions were childish and immature - hardly "professional".

I often enjoy reading the comments on here, but for serious drag racing fans I'm amazed at how naive many are. And Sherman, I'm not referring to you but used your comment to illustrate my point.

Have all of you forgotten who Greg spent years learning from and working for? WJ may have the best understanding of promotion of anyone in the Pro Stock pits. I can guarantee you that the Geoffrion burndown and the Connelly "punk" statement were planned well ahead of time.

It's clear to me that this is simply more of the same. Why does Greg seem unhappy even after a win? Because he insists on being perfect. Can you think of anyone else who gave many of those types of interviews?

Why did he wait until the tape was rolling to make the comment? Well, it wouldn't stir much interest in the class if it was made in the pits, would it?

I can also guarantee you that Erica beating Greg meant nothing to him other than a loss. In the weeks leading up to her win he was quite open about complimenting her skills. HE HELPED HER when he brought up the "getting beat by a girl" schtick. It added tremendously to the coverage of her quest and got a lot more people talking about what she was trying to accomplish.

Of the three people I've referred to so far, I know two of them pretty well. I've interviewed Erica a few times but have never had a private conversation.

Trust me, Greg is not a sexist. In private conversations, even with a few beers involved I've never seen the slightest indication of that. I've known him since long before he started driving or even started dating Kim. But I think he does understand that drag racing is at a crossroads and he's doing all he can to create interest.

I'm ready from the flames for people who have never even seen Greg in person, let alone talked to him. Those fitting that description can tell me all about him.

Yes, I'm aware that this message is one person's opinion. But it's an opinion that comes from having some sort of understanding of the people involved.

Let's say Clay Millican went up against Sony Shoe in a final, and won. His sponsor asked him to pose for a photo in front of the Army team's trailer hoisting the walley, and he did so. Would Sarge and from what it seems like the interwebs react the same way as GA if he were to basically do what EE did, which is do what your sponsor tells you do do?

Any pro racer knows how difficult it is to get a win and how easy it is to lose. I don't know of any who would want to "rub in" a victory because they know they'll probably be on the other end of the equation at the next race.

Like I said, I don't know Erica but as far as I'm concerned her sponsor put her in a really bad spot. How are you going to say no?

I've seen black eyes appear for less, but no one ever knows about it other than a few. And no, I'm not suggesting that Greg should have hit Erica, just that lesser actions have caused a racer to express their insistence on mutual respect.

It's fun to root for the good guy (or woman) but it always makes it better with a black hat involved.

Do any of you really believe Al Hoffman was the "tough guy" he portrayed in interviews?

And once again we're back to the question that never gets answered: Why do a lot of people complain about vanilla, corporate-speak racers but can't wait to condemn someone who stirs the pot a bit in the name of fan interest?

I don't mind my post being used as an example-but I think you missed the point my humor was after. Even if those two were best friends-and it was all a big joke to them-ESPN will be all over it like Fraiser vs. Ali. And KEEP banging away at it. Remember when Hot Rod Fuller was on a roll? It was gonna be a great rivalery with Tony S.? And they tried their damnest to "make" something out of it? Every interview with either one and nothing was coming from it. But they would still start the story with " more on the continuing rivalery between Fuller + Tony."

And what highlight do you think will be the most aired pre-Indy? Think it will involve racing? Or Force vs. Ped.?

I don't think anyone has to know him personally to see that the TV bashing of EE was immature and juvenile at BEST..
I think GA had his tender EGO bruised, and his bruised EGO came flying out of his mouth on TV after he couldn't contain it anymore. IMHO, he openly displayed his insecurities for the entire world to see, and a cardinal sin for a real "professional" to commit.. Kind of Ironic, huh?

The conversation between Greg and Erica was NOT staged in my opinion.I heard him tell Erica "You don't do that" 3 or 4 times.And I heard Erica ask him why he waited this long to say anything.

I get that GA doesn't want to be the answer to the trivia question, but by making this much of a deal out of it, he has now become the guy in the poster getting dunked over or burned on a deep pass pattern. The poster is the pic of EE and it should hang in all of the pits to remind him. I get the desire to win, and win them all and rip their throats out doing it. I just don't get the way he went about bringing it up and addressing the issue. I think at this point, she should sell autographed copies of the picture, or have a poster made of the finish line pic from that race. I would buy a copy..

Tender ego? Bruised ego? Insecurities? You're talking about a man who worked for WJ for years. Absolutely amazing. He wouldn't have lasted a week if your impression was true.

Am I slanted? Only in that my opinion is different from yours and based on what I personally know about Greg Anderson. I don't look upon him as a celebrity but rather as a very tough opponent who never gloated when he won the round.

Whether or not the EE photo is "chickensh!t", and whether or not this is some manufactured BS built up by the WWF (oops, I mean NHRA), it doesn't really matter.

When Greg was busy owning the field and stacking up championships, he repeatedly pooh-poohed rivalry talk and wanted to "let the on-track performance do the talking.". Guess that goes by the wayside when you're not on top of the world.
