George, you shouldn't be so negative it doesn't do you or anyone. else any good. I don't think getting a job is much different than 35yrs ago, I think there's a lot more today because of the advance in computer and technology. They have been talking about robots taking a lot jobs well they need people to program and maintain these machines. There's s shortage of operator's to run cad, the advancement of mill and lathes there's plenty of good paying jobs all you have to do is figure out what field you want and look for it

Jesse, although I may sound negative, I'm not looking at what I am talking about with negativity.
In my modest, small world business experiences of good and bad, I've simply realized the importance and have conditioned myself to try and decipher trends, and preparing for them by changing before they happen. I may be right, I may be wrong, but I think we've all seen what happens when someone or something fails to adapt and change.

I think any kid with a business brain and a lot of drive, and who isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves will still have a distinct advantage in the modern world. Along with that piece of paper that countless kids will own, comes a 100k-200k worth of student loans. There will be a lot more potential for failure with kids who don't accel over their peers.

As important as a College degree is in today's business climate, just finding people who show up to work everyday on time or don't call in sick once a week is every Bosses headache!

I just watched a segment on the the news about all the different things the NFL is doing trying to attract more fans to their football games.

Some teams are adding swimming pools to their stadiums and also restaurants where the fans can purchase other types of foods rather then just burgers and hot dogs.

They are trying to figure out how to make it a more memorable event for fans to attend and not just watch on TV.

Sounds to me they have the exact same problems the NHRA are having. How to make their events more memorable for the fans and racers.

Maybe there is something to be learned by watching what the NFL, baseball and other sports and NASCAR are doing to attract fans.

It's just my opinion but drag racing is not alone in the changes we see happening right now.

I also believe the economy is not helping and just watching the stock market each day is enough to scare the hell out of any potential sponsors from investing millions right now.

Seeing as though it costs an average family over $400 to attend an NFL game, I'd say that's an uphill battle! I think all these $10-15 Mil. salaries they are paying these players is coming home to roost!

Joe Sherwood I agree with the salaries being crazy.

How much do you think the average family spends to attend a National Event in drag racing?

For the NFL, each team received $187.7 million dollars for 2014 just for the broadcast rights (TV revenue). The salary cap for players for 2014 is $133 million dollars per team. It doesn't take a math major to see that NFL owners make over FIFTY MILLION DOLLARS without ever selling a ticket, jersey, parking or hot dogs and beer. Factor all of that other revenue in and it is like hitting the lottery every year. So while no man may be worth $15 million per year to play football in most peoples estimation, it is a mere pittance to what the men at the top are making and will continue to make long after anyone playing now has retired. The player's salaries should have no bearing on the cost to attend a game, the NFL just charges whatever they can get away with.

In 2016, TV revenues and the salary cap will go up dramatically, as that is when DirecTV's billion dollar deal kicks in, as well as the escalators in ESPN and NBC's contracts. Sports Business Daily estimates both numbers will increase by 20% in 2016 alone. EVERYONE is getting fat in the NFL. All TV partners with the NFL are on the hook thru at least 2021 (ESPN) with everyone else signed thru 2022 (Fox, CBS, NBC).

Thank you Chris, I get so sick of the "the players make to much money" crap.

I don't think the economy has as big of impact compared to the fact drag racing is not a good ROI in terms of advertising. There is no shortage of companies that have a $100 million + advertising budget that could afford to sponsor a race team. The problem is they get a better return from other forms of advertising. A 30 second Super bowl commercial cost $4 million and companies are lining up to get their spots. A company willing to spend 1/2 that amount to sponsor a fuel team cannot be found. Sponsorship is advertising and when done right, advertising drives sales.

Okay.....so why are so many fans staying home? Apparently the owners are scared Shitless that attendance is waning! I have never been to an NFL game, but I'm betting it's like NASCAR, better on TV than Live!

Joe, that is the multi-million dollar question. Even though the owners get huge TV money, ticket revenue is huge too. Of course they want their stadiums full.

Everyone today is trying to stretch their money as far as they can so staying home and watching your favorite sport on TV appears to becoming more popular.

When you consider the costs of any sporting event today for a family of four plus the costs of travel and food and even time spend driving to these events why not just watch it on TV or even just stream it to your computer and then to your smart TV?

It could be that all of the different groups that longed to have a lucrative TV contact deal are getting just what they wanted and so are the fans.

Maybe having more TV coverage is not such a good thing for the sanctioning bodies because it gives the fans a choice of either driving for two hours and paying a few hundred dollars or just sitting home and watching the event from the comfort of you own home.

Just my opinion. Jim Hill

My 4 seasons tickets for the Bills games in the Jim Kelly club run about $8,500.00 per year. Football is much more fun in person, especially if your team is good. here in Buffalo, we have sucked for years, but the stadium is usually sold out, unless it's a 15 degree day and our team is out of the playoff race. (as usual).
If the team finally gets it together, you won't be able to find a seat unless its from stub hub or a scalper.

Bear with my wordy post.
I just got back from Chicago while attending my nephews wedding. The kid is young, as are all of his college friends. All have jobs, and all are starting at well over 100K per year, with my nephew making much more than that. All are professionals. Football is all that they were talking about, (college and NFL) and maybe some baseball.

I don't see any of these guys going to the races, NHRA, Nascar, any of them. Its seems its strictly a blue collar thing now. And, blue collar workers are the new poor.
