Yep, Karma for the Robert Hight deal a few years back! Guess they are even now... so no more diving by either JFR or DSR in the futureMaybe time to look at some way to limit number of cars for each team in each class? I know this has it's own problems, but a single team controlling 25% of the field is just too much when they obviously are going to pull this kind of stuff.
Are you forgetting about the time Scelzi had lane lane choice, and his teammate (who was a lot closer to the leader in points at the time) was given the better lane? And then the blame for that debacle was shoved off on the crew chiefs?
I wonder if they (the crew chiefs) will get the blame this time.
Here's my take on it. Its been happening in all sports even drag racing for years. While I don't like it, I understand it and why it happens and if I could control the outcome of a race that would help me win a championship then I'd absolutely do it. I think the biggest uproar this time is bc it happened to Force, and from someone "The Don" who swears he never does it which is BS bc yesterday is was pretty obvious. Honestly I think the biggest problem is the NHRA's. The same thing I said about Force years ago, I will say about DSR now. BC NHRA "outlawed" it, they cant say they did it. Which in my opinion makes them look worse than anything bc everyone knows they did. I just wish NHRA would let them leave a car in the pits. Is it what we want to see? Absolutely not but NHRA is big business, and you do what you have to do in order to keep the $$$ coming in and feed this habit. BC there aren't a lot of people making $$$ off this sport.
I agree and this is how I feel too.
For those still wondering "WHY?"... take a look at the dollar amount of that big 'ol check in the winners circle celebration!Half a Mil will "help" you make decisions you do not want to make I think...
If Capps was in Hagan's place, NAPA would be patting Don on the back.
The manulipation in the nascar actually would of got their sponsored car into the chase . Truex had nothing to do with the whole deal and he lost the most out of the deal. Hopefully this doesn't cost Capps the NAPA sponsorship
The countdown had nothing to do with what decisions were made at the hauler yesterday. Just like it didn't have anything to do when Scelzi's lane choice was overridden to give Bazemore a win in 2003 in Seattle. This was about manipulating the outcome of a race for the title before the two cars even pulled into staging. Not only once, but twice in one day, after telling everyone that he wouldn't ever do that again after getting called out for it (by his own driver) in '03.
Again, the countdown had nothing to do with it. Integrity, however, (or rather the lack of) did.
While the countdown does not automatically equal dives, it does allow for more instances for it to happen. Be it at Indy to get in the top ten (Hight/Force) or as the finals near since races are tighter with the points reset.
Pre countdown there were dives but we talk 03 Seattle, KJ and his sign, Minor/Beck in the 80's toss in some Force/T Predregon and we have a handful over a couple decades that were obvious. Since the countdown, it is almost a yearly event. Hell, didn't Anderson basically admit that he would have done it if he and Line matched up yesterday??? Even when it doesn't happen it is still suspected and wondered by many. It seems to be, what I can only assume, is an unintended, consequence of the countdown
Dunno about that. They walked away from Waltrip and Truex, when cheating would have helped the team they were sponsoring. And, they got out of a 3 year deal without a peep from MWR because of their actions.
You all can think what you want, but Capp's loss in Rd. 2 cost him a shot at 4th place. There's no way they traded a potential 4th place finish for a Hagen championship. Had Capps won out, DSR funnies would have been 2, 3 & 4 instead of 1, 3 & 8. They were all fighting for their spot on the podium, period!
