Diving lessons?

You think Hagan's got muscles now... wait 'til you see him next year. His arms will be tree trunks from the daily workouts trying to rub the tarnish off that Championship trophy!

Yep, Karma for the Robert Hight deal a few years back! Guess they are even now... so no more diving by either JFR or DSR in the future :) Maybe time to look at some way to limit number of cars for each team in each class? I know this has it's own problems, but a single team controlling 25% of the field is just too much when they obviously are going to pull this kind of stuff.

Are you forgetting about the time Scelzi had lane lane choice, and his teammate (who was a lot closer to the leader in points at the time) was given the better lane? And then the blame for that debacle was shoved off on the crew chiefs?

I wonder if they (the crew chiefs) will get the blame this time.

Nope, I mean they are "even" because each team won a championship thru diving. I don't think anyone who saw the Seattle race could forget it. Also, I still give Scelzi credit for calling a duck a duck on that one, and Mike Dunn for calling DSR out on it. As for blame, I'm guessing it will be the "driver's choice" because of the sun glare and because "both lanes were even".

Here's my take on it. Its been happening in all sports even drag racing for years. While I don't like it, I understand it and why it happens and if I could control the outcome of a race that would help me win a championship then I'd absolutely do it. I think the biggest uproar this time is bc it happened to Force, and from someone "The Don" who swears he never does it which is BS bc yesterday is was pretty obvious. Honestly I think the biggest problem is the NHRA's. The same thing I said about Force years ago, I will say about DSR now. BC NHRA "outlawed" it, they cant say they did it. Which in my opinion makes them look worse than anything bc everyone knows they did. I just wish NHRA would let them leave a car in the pits. Is it what we want to see? Absolutely not but NHRA is big business, and you do what you have to do in order to keep the $$$ coming in and feed this habit. BC there aren't a lot of people making $$$ off this sport.

I agree and this is how I feel too.

For those still wondering "WHY?"... take a look at the dollar amount of that big 'ol check in the winners circle celebration! :-) Half a Mil will "help" you make decisions you do not want to make I think...

It might cost more than a half a mil if the braintrust at NAPA has any integrity. I can't imagine they are too happy about what went down.

If Capps was in Hagan's place, NAPA would be patting Don on the back.

Dunno about that. They walked away from Waltrip and Truex, when cheating would have helped the team they were sponsoring. And, they got out of a 3 year deal without a peep from MWR because of their actions.

The manulipation in the nascar actually would of got their sponsored car into the chase . Truex had nothing to do with the whole deal and he lost the most out of the deal. Hopefully this doesn't cost Capps the NAPA sponsorship

What I hope, is it doesn't cost Capps a sponsorship, but rather it costs DSR a good driver and his sponsorship. And DSR and his drivers can save the "we race straight up" line from here on out.

the nhra allowed these multi car teams.
a handful of owners manipulate this to their advantage.
a rule against diving!?.......ha, very funny, try to enforce it.

i'd like to see someone like wilk get a surprise phone call from his old sponosr asking if he'd like to field a second car

The countdown had nothing to do with what decisions were made at the hauler yesterday. Just like it didn't have anything to do when Scelzi's lane choice was overridden to give Bazemore a win in 2003 in Seattle. This was about manipulating the outcome of a race for the title before the two cars even pulled into staging. Not only once, but twice in one day, after telling everyone that he wouldn't ever do that again after getting called out for it (by his own driver) in '03.

Again, the countdown had nothing to do with it. Integrity, however, (or rather the lack of) did.

While the countdown does not automatically equal dives, it does allow for more instances for it to happen. Be it at Indy to get in the top ten (Hight/Force) or as the finals near since races are tighter with the points reset.
Pre countdown there were dives but we talk 03 Seattle, KJ and his sign, Minor/Beck in the 80's toss in some Force/T Predregon and we have a handful over a couple decades that were obvious. Since the countdown, it is almost a yearly event. Hell, didn't Anderson basically admit that he would have done it if he and Line matched up yesterday??? Even when it doesn't happen it is still suspected and wondered by many. It seems to be, what I can only assume, is an unintended, consequence of the countdown

You don't seem to understand that the countdown is not the problem, as evidenced by your pointing out instances that happened long before it came into play. 1 particular owners lack of integrity was the problem yesterday.

A lot of people on here have shouted to the heavens that DS told everyone he did wrong in Seattle, and believed him when he said his teams would never do it again. Well, it just happened and he should be called out for it. By fans and sponsors.

Like I said, I hope Capps doesn't lose NAPA, but I hope like hell DSR does.

As long as there is more than 1 car in a team there has been diving, sandbagging, and so on. Today it's almost impossible to get away with it because we have the internet, forums, facebook where the fans can immediately shed light on what happened which increases their attention to the fact. John Force and Don S are both responsible for this and now it's time for NHRA to stand up do something about it. When Waldrip pull his stunt at Richmond a couple years ago Nascar stepped in immediately and responded in a big way and you won't see it happen again. NHRA must stand up and realize it's bad for the sport and it has to stop. Now is the big test to see if NHRA has a back bone or not to do something about it.

You're focusing on the wrong round. Ron was in the "dreaded right lane" because Hagan had lane choice and put him there, in round 1 Ron had a 4.028 and Hagan had a 4.015. For the record none of the DSR cars ran in the right lane in round 1and TJ won in the right lane in the pair before Capps and Hagan. Napa would be foolish to leave either Capps or DSR over the Round 2 loss. For DSR the Semi played out perfectly, who's TJ's "sponsor"?

Dunno about that. They walked away from Waltrip and Truex, when cheating would have helped the team they were sponsoring. And, they got out of a 3 year deal without a peep from MWR because of their actions.

Last year Napa left because NASCAR dropped the hammer on MWR when Truex and Napa were removed from the Chase. Had NASCAR done nothing Truex would still be driving the Napa Toyota. MWR didn't say or do anything because they got caught manipulating a race with Bowyer spinning, Brian Vickers making multiple pit stops and very slow laps to protect and ensure the 56, and they orchestrated it over the team radios for all to hear. There was no denying what took place.

I would also say how quick it was exposed what Summit team were attempting to do in Pro Stock caught wind to the Summit Leaders and they said don't do that, just look what happened in Q4, what a rebound. Of coarse thats JMO.

You all can think what you want, but Capp's loss in Rd. 2 cost him a shot at 4th place. There's no way they traded a potential 4th place finish for a Hagen championship. Had Capps won out, DSR funnies would have been 2, 3 & 4 instead of 1, 3 & 8. They were all fighting for their spot on the podium, period!

Id pick the 1-3-8 instead of the other outcome lol. Number one is what counts
