I never thought I would see entire sections of stands covered by advertising at Dega. Tower sections in turn four and tower sections in turn one were blocked off. While I'm still not sure how I feel about "love bug" racing, it sure led to a heck of an exciting finish here today.

I noticed that too, Barry. Looked they'd pulled the seats and everything to me.

I also noticed on the F1 show that there's about 4 sections of grandstands at the Shanghai road course where they've removed seats and and turned them into giant signs.

Wouldn't you think with ticket sales that bad, they would eventually lower prices? Too much to hope for? The spring race at Dega used to always be packed. Apparently, it's not just me not going anymore. The Allison Grandstand on the backstretch was pretty full....that was a surprise. Those are the cheapest seats there.

That was one heck of an ending to that race! Very fun to watch. I'm an RCR fan, so I was pulling for Bowyer all the way.

I agree though....those ads were odd.

Wouldn't you think with ticket sales that bad, they would eventually lower prices? Too much to hope for? The spring race at Dega used to always be packed. Apparently, it's not just me not going anymore. The Allison Grandstand on the backstretch was pretty full....that was a surprise. Those are the cheapest seats there.

They'll NEVER do it. The reason is that when, or if, things ever pick up again, they'll have a hard time raising them back up to where they were before, without invoking the wrath of fans. Better to bite the bullet, sell a few less tickets, and get the money elsewhere, such as concessions and such.

Some of the tracks ARE changing their policies though. As an example, I got a mailer from Kansas Speedway a few days ago, in which they claimed "We heard you, and we listened!" Up until now, they've always sold their tickets on a yearly basis only. So if you wanted tickets to the NASCAR race, you also had to buy tickets to the IRL event. If you didn't want the IRL tickets, you had to sell them or eat the price. The year we went, that was fine with me, because I wanted to see both races. (The IRL race weekend also featured the Craftsman Truck Series race. We got to see Carl Edwards do his very first NASCAR backflip live!) Man, you should have heard the fans complaining about that. Loudly. Many of the NASCAR fans wanted NOTHING to do with the IRL tickets they were forced to buy. "Nuttin' but a bunch of &^%$ing limp wristed sissy boahs!" one truck race fan in front of us insisted. He was NOT there the next day. His seats were empty. Now, in an admission that economic times have changed, the track is offering to sell individual tickets to individual races. At the same price as far as I can tell. BUT!!! They're ALSO allowing you to bring food and beverages in soft sided coolers, another change. When we went, they made us toss a package of in-the-shell peanuts we had with us.
