If you are killing valve springs in the burnout, you're not much of a driver........
The engine shouldn't be anywhere near the limiter.

I think it'll be fun to watch. It's not going to turn the class around but it's certainly not going to hurt.

there is to much at stake to "play" with qualifying times, especially Friday, probably the best conditions.

I'm hoping Q3 puts up good numbers. After the rain the track should be good by tonight and from what I saw the temps should be high 50's to low 60's for overnight lows. That should be great for track conditions and times. Not sure about burnouts though. Maybe try those during the earlier sessions each day if it were me.

a burn ou
I am guessing maybe 2 participants.....
a burnout competition late in the season points chase, during the biggest race of the year. is this a good time for that ??? I bet the same guy that came up with this idea is the same on who suggested shorter wheelie bars, decals and turning the car around in the pits.

well, somebody tried......more time for fans to watch scott palmer's warmup.....A WARMUP THAT PRODUCED A 3.754!
nice job scott!.....oh, was this a PS thread?.....go scott palmer!

There won't be anything at stake after the class dissolves. Then maybe they will wish they woulda taken part in the quirky tactics to try to liven up the class.

PS is already circling the drain, hence the circus side show of burnouts. But in PS's defense teams have millions of dollars in R&D developing engines, trans, clutches and routines to win, now NHRA says lets have a burnout contest throwing out ALL their years of data collecting. Fans love it, yes, the time to do it, no.

Wow. You guys sure are a bunch of negative Nancy's.

Only 2 competitors? No one from the top ten? What?

The entire reason for the burnout contest was directly tied to THE CROWD'S REACTION to Shane Gray's burnouts to break in tires for Johnny Gray. To say the things that have been said shows you don't pay attention, don't care, or both, IMHO.

Save it. Seriously. If you're just gonna be negative about everything all the time then quit racing, sell your stuff and go sell panties, Nancy. Jeez.

Everybody complains that the stands empty when PS comes up. Well here's one way you get the casual fan to support pro stock. A couple of these, and now they have a favorite pro stock driver. Now, they don't flock to the pits when Tanner Gray lines up against Enders. Yes, it happens that quick. I know from experience. 2 years ago, I wasn't keeping up with nhra or anything that went on, though I still LOVE drag racing and watch/race all the time. 1 single event changed that all. I followed one guy's weekend at Indy last year and that's all it took to get me back as a fan. That's really all it takes. First, they get introduced to drivers. Then they see somebody they like....and now they're hooked. Scoff at it if you want. It's more than you've done to further the sport.

That's EXACTLY what the sport needs. And all you people do is scoff and complain and talk crap. Smh. You ought to be ashamed of yourselves. At least they're doing things to draw in new fans and not just sitting around talking crap and wishing "the good old days" could come back. They can't.

Sorry if this is too blunt but damn. Enough already.

I've never really been impressed with long burnouts. They look like a waste of time to me most of the time. One long burnout that did impress me was at Indy quite a few years ago. Hurley Blakeney, running Comp Eliminator in his twin-turbo Thunderbird, started his burnout in his lane, got sideways and crossed the centerline after the 60' timing block, got the car straightened out and continued the burnout in the other lane without lifting. That was fun to watch! I'd never seen anything like that before!

If the long burnout did not affect the tune up, PS and Nitro, the teams might still do it. The teams have learned the long burnout effects the performance, hence they are not going to do it. They seem to get shorter and shorter lately.
Burnouts do stimulate the crowd and add to the show, but teams want to win.

I just want throttle whacks to be mandatory for all nitro cars during warm ups. lol.

there is a reason long burnouts and throttle wacks keep resurfacing in many threads every week/month/year.
finally (and possibly ill conceived but i like it) a burnout competition for the PS's.....it's something. it's a start back to somewhere.
i don't have favorites in racing, but suddenly i really like derek kramer. i get why the 'points' cars did not participate, but i also
get why derek totally smoked the hides.....it's entertainment baby (for the fans paying to watch)
