Last I checked - Anyone with a competition license and a car that passes tech can enter into any class at an event. Should they happen to qualify at said event? Well that's why we take the quickest 16. It's no different than if I were to go to Roy Hill's school, get my license, and go and make a show over V. Gaines, WJ, Jeg, anyone. If they don't make the show it's their problem and not anyone elses. I don't get the hatred towards this guy? I sure hope you wouldn't hate me for outrunning a class regular.

I remember when John Andretti decided to give Top Fuel a try, a lot of good media exposure came about from that. HUMPHREYS TESTS ROUSH-YATES ENGINE IN ROCKINGHAM

Reminds me of the time Andretti was guest on the now defunct show ‘Inside Winston Cup’ (later ‘Inside Nextel Cup’), the freewheeling Monday night show (then) featuring panelists Michael Waltrip, Johnny Benson, and Ken Schrader. Of all the different rides John had occupied, they wanted to hear about the stint in Top Fuel.

Greg, if I understand what you are trying to say, no one, other than the current group of "regular" PS drivers, is allowed to enter an NHRA event.

Yep, that's what he was saying. I guess a "regular" has to retire or croak, before anyone new can enter an event. In fact, maybe they should just limit the field to 16 regulars, and then they won't even have to "qualify".

One thing I've always really liked about drag racing is that anyone who's car can pass tech and has demonstrated a reasonable ability to handle their car can show up and compete.

Even when I was just bracket racing I really liked this, for any given race you never knew who might pull in the gate.

With all the changes that drag racing has had to go through recently, some due to economics, some self inflicted, I would hate it if this "open" nature of drag racing also took a hit.

I say bring them on and let the finish lights decide who gets to keep racing.

And no, if he doesn't Q, he won't bring media on Sunday. .

Actualy... it will.. it will bring as much as if he doesn't make the show.. it will show how hard it is to "Q" .. how tough the other teams are... even if it is just going in a strait line....

and as i stated before the extra press will get potential sponsors looking at drag racing.... and to test the waters instead of jumping on one of the top teams well funded they will look at one of the lower budgeted teams for sponsorship.. why???.. one cheaper.. and two.. lower budgeted teams have a tendancy to work harder to show the company what they can do, hopefully to lead to a larger budget later down the road....with that company or another....

Kurt got a ton of mainstreme press for himself and for drag racing that is usualy not there when he went out in first round at the Gators earlier in the year....and it wasn't in a "PRO" class of drag racing....

Virgil... you tha man....lol.. great post..

Way back when I was a kid my dad was racing an A gas dragster. My aunt was at the track one day and entered the family Camaro into one of the stock classes. She had never raced before but she won the trophy that day. She was SO excited and was able to smack talk with the men for many years.

Soooo... i also love that part of drag racing! :)

His name keeps popping up as a possible "victim", but judging by the last 3 or so events, I think V Gains can still squeak into the field.

I need to get a list of acceptable back grounds to be accepted to enter an event. Can one of you direct me to the pool of sponsor money and media exposure so that if I race again I can get my share before some outside source comes in and takes it away.

And I didn't know that lines were drawn between drag racing and NASCAR racing. About a dozen of our ex crew members are now with NASCAR teams, and when we race locally, they come to help and bring many of their fellow workers with them. Real gearheads don't care what kind of car they work on, as long as they are allowed to get their hands dirty.

I would bet the farm that if Kurt enters the event in a Johnson Racing Mopar that they will qualify and be competitive with most of the cars there. And they will earn their rewards with a good plan, focus and hard work, just like everyone else that is competing.

Some times a mater will take a ridiculous position and stick to it just to stir the pot and get attention. Good job Greg.
Mr Hartman

I respect you because you do it, and you give guys like Baker chances.

But if you think for one second, that some of the most vocal people on here (nitromater.com) or other message boards give NASCAR a second look without trashing them, until one of theirs crosses the line, you are mistaken. NASCRAP, etc, is BAU here, unless they want to drag race.

Jason Line is the only one who has done it successfully, and if it were the number 43 guy in points rather than Busch, he would be treated as such. And Line was a mechanic, not a multimillion dollar a year driver, such as Busch.

You, yourself, got ran out of the game due to sponsorship and financial commitments to other teams that made running the circuit a monetary nightmare. Fram is still racing.

When you start mixing drivers into multiple series for the sake of exposure is when racing starts to be diluted and $ponsor driven. Worse than it is now.

Busch can try to earn his way in to the 1 race he can run, but if he does put rounds on someone, I don't want to hear a word, (or a petition PJ) about how 20 points cost someone, because some big deal cross over driver entered one race and screwed someone who ran all year.

EDIT: And by the way, I lost a little respect for you today Mr. Hartman. If you thought NASCRAP was the place to find drivers, you are in the Meca. But have never hired a Cup driver to make passes in your pipe.

You are the only person in this thread referring to NASCAR as NASCRAP....

Did you hear the reaction on Raceday this morning....pretty much the same reaction Kurt gets at NASCAR intros? If he wants to come run one race and he brings a little more exposure great but the NHRA has bigger fish to fry if they want to bring back the many fans that are now indifferent to their show.

This pot did need stirrin' Greg, too bad you don't have a clue of which you speak. You are so off base on so many statements that they don't even warrant a rebuttal.

Last time I looked, this is still a free country. As someone stated earlier in the thread, if you have a car that will pass tech, and a valid competition license, you are free to enter an event. As for the "bought ride" comment I read earlier, arent most of the rides "bought" by somebody. The days of just building a car and going racing for a living (ala Glidden, Jenkins, WJ) left with ten cent cokes and fifty cent gasoline. NHRA pro ranks (and to a certain degree the sportsman ranks), are well populated with wealthy business people who basically must view racing as a hobby----cause they sure as hell didnt get rich racing. Maybe we need an "affermative action" program for poor folks that cant afford to stay competitive with the "rich guys". And finally, I really cant see why having a NASCAR racer compete is hurting anybody. By the way Virgil Hartman, thanks for once again making a lot of sense. Would like to one day meet you and shake your hand. Just my 2 cents worth--and probably overpriced at that.:D

Awwwww Man... I was really looking forward to finding out why you had so much disdain for NASCAR drivers that you explicitly excluded them from driving your cars!!!

:::snicker:::

The only Busch I've ever seen in drag racing was Kelly's. And IT was rolling across the parking lot when I spilled it out of her cooler.

Sorry Kel...couldn't resist. :D

I remember when John Andretti was competing in Top Fuel. His name came up in a discussion with a reporter friend. He was surprised to hear that an Andretti was drag racing and wanted to know more.
It just might be that Busch's notoriety, and his demonstrated interest in our form of motorsports, might get some attention in sports media.
Or not.
Cheers,
Ed

Hey Virgil, How are you? Long time no talk to. In the next couple of months, I'll be headed to the Carolinas for some business, when I do, I'd love to touch base and see if we can meet.
