What have drag racing fans who don't like NASCAR got to do with this discussion? That point is completely irrelevant to what we are talking about.

Even if someone doesn't like NASCAR or Kurt Busch, but they are a drag racing fan, then they should think this is a good thing. It doesn't make them two faced. Two faced is having two different opinions on the same subject that you tell different parties.

The point is that Kurt will bring non more non Drag Racing media to the event he enters than probably any other race on the tour.
I'll tell you what it has to do with it. How many idiots here call it NASCRAP and will buy a NASCRAP drivers gear because he is going to race NHRA PS for ONE RACE.

All the 2 faced, hypocritical fans, that's who.

And no, if he doesn't Q, he won't bring media on Sunday. And, if he does, what regular tour driver WONT get any press that weekend?
V Gaines?
Vinnie Deceglie?
John Nobile?
Benza?
Gordy R?

Yeah, lets heap a bunch of attention to another store bought, never been down a strip in competition, out of his element, driver, and leave the guys who keep the show afloat out, again. Makes sense to me.

I wonder if his competition number will be painted down the side of the door instead of a sponsor name.

So, according you:

a) The possibility of Gaines, Deceglie, Nobile, Benza or Gordy R missing the field far outweighs the large amount of non drag racing media coverage that this will generate.

and

b) Kurt Busch will be out of his element in a Pro Stock car by the time G'ville comes around.

I really am missing something!

This discussion is done.

Never been down a strip in competition? He raced at the Gators this year.

How did that work out for him?
1st round loss in SG, to PS hero. Ok then.

He had 12 passes down the 1/4 before the Gators last year. And now he is in a PS?

He wont last, he wont win, and he wont be a factor. So I was mistaken. He has exactly 1 pass in competition.

Some folks take PS seriously.

So Greg is against this and he's holding his ground on that position. No sense arguing with him for the next 5 pages. Time to move on.

I personally, along with a large amount of others, am all for it and I see it as a big opportunity to get drag racing some much needed extra coverage. I'm looking forward to enjoying it when the Gatornationals roll around and I can't wait to see where the stories about him driving a Pro Stock car pop up across the country. Who knows, maybe some of the other Cup drivers will come hang out around the track on their off weekend as well. Could be a star-studded event!

Greg - this isn't about Kurt being competitive, it would be a miracle if he qualifies! It's about more internet coverage and airtime on Speed and ESPN than NHRA could ever buy. Got it?

OK. Lets let Lindsey Lohan try to Qualify. Or Paris Hilton.

YAY! Lets put up a banner. WELCOME NASCRAP DRIVERS.

I know that won't happen, (Mater) posters will only call NASCAR drivers a POS on message boards. Not to their face.

Looks like Greg is asking for another vacation at banned camp.....

I`m all for it, we need all of the positive non drag racing press we can get. Maybe this will generate some more corporate interest from non sin sponsors and help some the parked/underfunded folks.

I need to get a list of acceptable back grounds to be accepted to enter an event. Can one of you direct me to the pool of sponsor money and media exposure so that if I race again I can get my share before some outside source comes in and takes it away.

And I didn't know that lines were drawn between drag racing and NASCAR racing. About a dozen of our ex crew members are now with NASCAR teams, and when we race locally, they come to help and bring many of their fellow workers with them. Real gearheads don't care what kind of car they work on, as long as they are allowed to get their hands dirty.

I would bet the farm that if Kurt enters the event in a Johnson Racing Mopar that they will qualify and be competitive with most of the cars there. And they will earn their rewards with a good plan, focus and hard work, just like everyone else that is competing.

Some times a mater will take a ridiculous position and stick to it just to stir the pot and get attention. Good job Greg.

This place is amazing. When Ron Capps and Cruz and others jump in stock cars and dirt cars and karts and whatever else, everyone thinks it's cool. Why is it that because Kurt is wanting to drag race in his spare time, some have to overthink all the ramifications? Let the guy have fun! Like Virgil said, it's about being a gearhead, can't it be that simple?

Great post Virgil!!

Greg, if I understand what you are trying to say, no one, other than the current group of "regular" PS drivers, is allowed to enter an NHRA event. The possibility of them taking a qualifying spot away from a "regular" is unacceptable. I have to call BS on that. Kurt said himself "if we're ready", I interpret that to mean, if he is comfortable and competitive in et and speed, they will enter.

Brin it on Kurt.

For my part, I've watched NASCAR since the mid 60's, only a slightly shorter time than I've been following drag racing. I've always been up front about that, so I'd like to think I'm not "two faced."

Although I'm not a huge Busch family fan, I can only think that this will be a win-win situation for everyone involved. If he's got the money, and the equipment, and the will to do it, he can line up at the registration window along with everyone else and put his money down and take his chances. Good for him, and I think it'll be good for us.

The rude condescension and vitriol in Greg's posts suggest to me he has a deeper agenda here than he's letting on to us, but in the meantime folks, I heartily suggest

I don't particularly care for NASCAR, but I think Busch coming over to drag racing is a good thing. I don't recall if Dan Pastorini caused a a ruffle when he signed on to race in top fuel, but whatever the case may be, there was media attention because of it. I view that as a good for drag racing. What Joe Gibb's racing?

We cannot afford to be insular.

Wow, it's been a long time since I've seen a person over-react to something in this manner. I remember when John Andretti decided to give Top Fuel a try, a lot of good media exposure came about from that. Jack Clark even managed to sign Taco Bell as a result of Andretti driving his car a couple of times. I don't know if I'd bet the farm on Kurt qualifying based on him being behind the wheel of a Roy & Allen Johnson prepped car, but his odds certainly increased.

Looks like Kurt's learning curve is advancing

I like NASCAR. I think it would be cool to see Busch race with us. AND I do believe it would bring many more fans over to NHRA.

<I'm not in the mood to fight, so if you don't agree with me just move on. I'm just stating my opinion because I felt like it. :) >
